@ DrSpike. Of course I always say no, but like Asmodean stated, the damned program writes to my registry - so that's what I have to continually clean out.

Damn! Here I go again, Gator decided to pay me another visit!
Is it my imagination or has Gator sightings increased in the past few days?
Well, time to clean up my registry (yet again).
Ciao for now.

I think the occurence has increased. I have been less on Apolyton than usual these past few days, but I have seen more Gator in the last two days, than in the last two weeks.

Well I have always said no. But why is that not enough?
I mean what will it do to your registry and what effect would that have?

Run adaware and find out for yourself.
Also remember, non-IE browsers are less likely to be tricked into downloading or even offering stuff like gator to you.
I'm on a 56k at the moment so can't check the entire thread, but I seem to recall all the gator ads being from IE browsers.

Just got a Gator pop-up from 'poly for the first time ever. First time I've used IE to browse here for months.

I just got the gator pop-up again. It may well have been from another page I had open, but I know you are slowly bringing the ads back to try and track it down.

Yep, I too got it again and I only visited Apolyton since the last time I cleaned out my registry/cookies/temp files. Time to clean it all up (yet) again.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed? I had other programs in the background all the time I was doing this. I had an ad pop-up at the same time as the gator one, but when I tried to look at it it opened under my task bar where I couldnt read it. I played in the task manager and got it maximised. The screen was blank, so I looked in the source and found it is most likely responsible for the gator. I have saved the source info and the address of the ad if this info is of any use.

that would be good to have, but more important would be if you had the referral info of the page

1) on mozilla, right-click on the page and select "view page info". there will be a referring url info
2) on ie your best chance is the history bar

DanQ,
My apologies on not checking this thread after starting it. First, I was busy for several days and didn't check 'poly much, then I just forgot about this page when the Gator ads went away the first time.
I'll have to spend more time checking the community part of the boards...
I agree with others here that the Gator ads have gone up in frequency lately, but I really haven't had that much of an issue because I know how to kill them and clean my registry (not to mention my firewall prevents the sucker from sending anything out even if I accidentally download the stupid thing).
My concern, as previously stated, is for the visitors to the site that have absolutely no idea what Gator is or that it's been downloaded to their system.
Thank you a BUNCH for working on this. Next time I spot a Gator ad, I'll see if I can check the history to find anything of use (which, since I'm using IE, is rather unlikely).
Thanks again.

Maybe someone should program a product called "GatorHater" or "GaterRaid".

My firewall blocks Gator, of course but it blocks everything else, too. That is what keeps Apolyton from making money, and why I have made a pledge (to myself) to surf poly with my firewall off.

many thanks Snotty
unfortunatelly the info you got doesnt go back enough to one of our ad providers OR the ads are originating by some other source(other site that you browsed at the time or a gator-like application installed in your computer)

These are the same links I posted a month ago...
I'm pretty sure they are coming frpm 'poly, since I get them when JUST using 'poly AND straight after cleaning up with AdAware.
I doubt they're coming from one of your official ad-providers, but I imagine the Gator ad has hitched a "free ride" to 'poly somehow.

Maybe contact Gator and have them help clear out the mess.
If they are as serious as they claim to be, they should be only too happy to help.

Yeah, but I think the problem is that Mark and Dan can not link Ad Flow with a company that they have signed up with. Meaning that it is a third party ad, and they have to locate the "second party".
Allthough by the second party, I'm usually so drunk that I need to go home and sleep it off.

This is worse than trying to figure out who actually hired a hit man.
Not that I or anyone else has hired a hit man, it's just that people always use lots of middlement when they hire hit men.
