CivII Scenario Awards 2000
I would like to start an annual award ceremony hosted by Sleague. It would have several categories, and the winners of each category would be posted each day.
I'm not sure on prizes, but people could give me some suggestions on those and categories.
We would need a panel of Five judges (or votes), none of which can have created the nominated scenarios. I suggest 1 vote for each category be obtained from a public survey sheet. The other 4 votes would be made by live judges. I suggest one be an Apolyton administrator (either MarkG or DanQ). One be an Sleague member, and the other two from non-members and noncreators.
None of the aforesaid may have created the nominated scenarios.
The awards can nominate any scenario ever created up to the day Jan 31, 1999
I'll keep track of nominee votes (YOU CAN'T NOMINATE YOURSELF), yes, you can nominate MPS scenarios
I suggest:
1)Best Art
2)Best Sound
3)Best Events
4)Most Balanced Units
5)Most Challenging
6)Most Original
7)Best Atmosphere
8)Best Map
9)Worst Scenario
11)Best Fantasy Scenario
12)Best Sci-fi Scenario
13)Best World War (1/2/3) Scenario
14)Best Scenario
This is what I can come up with:
1) Red Front, 2194 Days of War, Sword of Shannara, Midguard (ToT), Alba de America, Charlemagne, Artaxerxes
2) Red Front, Sword of Shannara, Midguard (ToT), Artaxerxes
3) Red Front, Sword of Shannara, Enemy of God, Spartacus
4) Red Front, Artaxerxes, Charlemagne
5) Red Front, Sword of Shannara
6) Red Front, Spartacus, Sword of Shannara, Up the Deadly Boot
7) Red Front, Sword of Shannara,
That's all for now!

Screw all the others and lets just say Red Front! Viva la Nemo!
Nah. Variety is the spice of life.

I agree in limits with Darthvedas idea.
First of all, isn't all this already done by HAC?
Then, I would suggest to give a limit for scenario nominations, lets say four or five. It is unfair that Red Front is nominated for all categories. Give the others a chance!
Then, I would suggest that you make these awards monthly. The 12 best scenarios will in the end compete against each other in the final annual awards. Why? Civ3 will propably be out next year. This would make it more interesting for the people and will propably motivate the authors to make better scenarios every month.
Include "Best changes" or something. Should be for terrains and city improvements (in that case I would nominate the Great Game by Michael Daumen).
Divide between ToT and FW/MGE/CiC. I doubt they could keep up with each other.
Most accurate scenario.
BTW, I feel flattered that my Artaxerxes scenario is nominated for 3 categories. I personally like my Darius 2.0 better. Here again the offer for "eMail download" of 2.1 until CSC is updated again!

I would not make a good judge, I was never into scenarios, I've played very few of them. plus, I have dropped civ2 for months due to smac and ctp....

Hey, I'd like to be a judge, if you could trust the opinion of a 13 year old.
I'm pretty picky, but at the same time, I'm open to new ideas. So at least concider me.
That's all I ask.

Hmmmm....I could be a judge, since all the scenarios I made are crap and will never see seen . But I don't want anyone to get mad at me if I made a decision.

Hey, DV, I would suggest hosting this at HAC and talking with Reismark about it. I would also suggest cutting down the number of categories dramatically. After all, if you can get 12 of them over 12 months, how valuable of an indicator is this, really?
One possibility for limiting the nominations would be to allow only scenarios that have been reviewed by SLeague to be nominated. Plus it would provide another incentive to get your scenario reviewed
I would also suggest removing the "worst" scenario - no sense in being nasty.

As I was going to say, blackclove (but you beat me to the punch), this sort of thing is indeed HAC's goal and responsibility. I still need a few Agents in helping me to gather nominations for the 2000 awards. I was considering adding a "preview" sections for hyped scenarios like Red Front and Shannara for the purpose of exposing them better to the community. Unfortunately, since my home computer's in the shop because of a really bad anti-EXE virus, I can't do much work on the site right now (the only thing I can really do is update currently existing pages and allow Markos or Dan to upload them for me).
Would you like to help me? I could really use some kind of assistance on the site (plus, as a bonus, you'd get one of these fancy-smancy titles for the forums). What you'd do is help me with the nominations by either being an Agent or providing your own suggestions. If you want, you could also set up and run this "preview" section if you like (and the preview could be determined by vote as you suggest here).
What do you say? Please e-mail me pronto about this.

I'm tossing out punchlines that were never there,
Over my shoulder a piano falls, crashing to the ground...
I'm breaking through, I've been exposed,
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom,
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond...

You know when I finished Enemy of God I thought, nah, no one will ever play this. Turns out I was wrong. Three people have played it! Woohoo!
I think this is a great idea, but I think the voting should be public (like with an ip check or something) not picked by judges.
