Crawler Rushing
I have a general idea of what it is, but seeing as I've never actually used it myself, I'm a bit unsure of the details. Could somebody please fill me in on the best procedure to accomplish this feat, and the exact returns on it?

Well you just move a crawler into the SP base and you'll get the option to add the crawler minerals to the SP production. The returns are the exact mineral costs of the crawler. This is opposed to any other unit, where only half the mineral cost would be added.

Ah, so that's the secret. And what about the pre-upgrading crawlers? Does that provide a benefit too?

Absolutely - the cost to upgrade is minimal compared to the added value of the minerals per row (both for SPs and for prototypes)
Armored (best armor prototyped) and trance is best early on, then drop trance best armor when MMI has been discovered and add fusion when that's available

Add fusion to the crawler you build not to the upgrade crawler. Idealy, all crawlers for upgrade should be built on a rover chassis (especially after fusion since a crawler-1-2*2 costs 3 rows, the same as a crawler-1-1*1) since then the returns for the same money are that much more. After MMI, a 6 row crawler-1-2 can be upgraded to a 35row crawler^-3rt-2 for about 300ec, which buys 75mins on an SP, probably about 12 rows.
