Ahh, the beauty of having a seperate public forum for our ISDG team...
I'll publicly state that, if no one trusts me enough, I won't ask for mod powers in this forum. I don't know what the fuss is about: while Aeson was a member of your team and a moderator of the GotM forum at CFC, he could have accessed our private forum, but didn't go peeking.
However, I believe there is a way to deny access to private forums:
There is a similar situation in the ACDG. Each team has it's own private forum. GeneralTactius, the mod of the main ACDG forum, would be mod over the other private subforms. However, he's also a member of one of the teams. Though he is technically moderator over all the forums, he is denied access to all private forums, except for the one of the team of which he is a member.

But in this case Octavian it wouldn't work. We only have one sub-forum in the DG forum. Yes Aeson may have had the powers to do so and I can trust you that you wouldn't but there would always be question to whether you looked or not. IMO the easiest thing would be to give the powers to someone else.

Waitasec - you need to be authorised to enter the room, I believe. Beta, the one who can authorise and de-authorise, is banned on a technicality right now, so we can't really check if having mod powers is equivalent to being authorised. I will try and find out...

That's a very good point MrWIA. MarkG or Ming should know the answer to this as well.

I don't know why - I just heard this second-hand. I have PMed DanQ about the ISDG entry issue, and I expect the answer will be along the lines of my post and Octavian's - you have to be authorised to visit those forums no matter what your status (apart from Admin, of course).
So it is possible Octy may be the Prez with full mod powers too!
And OPD - next time I see them in chat I will push to find a way to reauthorise you.

I'm still going with my previous statement, even if we encounter every other civilization in the next five turns. No maps, diplomatic agreements, lux/resource trades-- all that will be done by the foreign minister (officially) is to check up on tech trades every turn, which will be few and far between turn wise (but not real time wise). Unofficially, sure they can make it a full time job. Assess every civilization for takeoverability, future prospects, etc.
hmm do we need a cartographer?

Alright. Plain and simple.
No a mod cannot enter the forum without authorization. No need to go restricting antbody.

Brilliant! Cheers for the observation UnO.
Well now that there's no problem with giving Octy the spellZ, I guess it falls upon me, having kicked this whole thing off, to start the election process...

Too bad that others have shown otherwise, and the maker (Mark) is not around too much these days to sort out glitches.
btw, Octavian, Aeson resigned form the ISDG team due to a map foul up a long time ago. We wanted to know when he could return. The team effected by his momentary glimpse of their map stated the terms under which they would feel at ease with him rejoining.
Aeson subsequently declined to rejoin at any time due to his 'promotion' and access to forums at CFC.
Aeson never will again be a part of the ISDG team, due to the possibility of the appearance of impropriety. He chose a wise course.
/Addit: I suppose he could rejoin when and if CFC is knocked out, since the conflict would be gone. It would also require the fulfillment of that other team's terms.

nye, there are levels of modship, I am sure.
The modship over this particular forum, as given to the president, is not enough to view the forums.
Yes there are work arounds, I am sure, such as one that MZ made famous during his banning where you can access a private forum if you subscribed to a thread, and there is the access questions when someone links to threads in a privat forum, but those have nothing to do with the modship that Octavian will be receiving.

nye, does this mean there is a reason that we can't let Octy have the mod powers, despite UnO's investigation proving we would need to accept him into the team before there was even the chance to visit the private forum?
