So now we know that the Knights Templar and the Statue of Zeus wonders are not scenario specific and will be in the main game, as well as the stealth attack and enslavement abilities !
Quote:
|
Q: Are features from the Conquest scenarios available in the main game?
A: Since the Conquests are self-contained, many technologies, units, civilizations, and other features can be found only in a specific Conquest. For instance, the Sengoku Conquest features many Japanese structures, technologies, and other cultural icons specific to that time and place. That said, many features created for the Conquests were brought over to the Epic Game. Examples include abilities such as enslavement and stealth attacks, wonders such as the Knights Templar and the Statue of Zeus, and the unique units for each of the new civilizations.

yes!!!
it would be a waste of programming some of these great features just for one scenario.
i'm sure all the mod-makers around will bring up some more good ideas with this

and to add:
i also hope the feudal-japan-scenario-functions are included in the main game too.
this progress of single units (daimiyos iirc) opens up a whole new world

The Pikeman we've seen in the previews is called a "Swiss Mercenary"and is probably the Dutch UU or otherwise a unit for one of the conquests.

It is probably a unit for the medieval scenario (my guess).

There is a normal tech tree in the background of the statue screenshot, and the unit name is very generic. I bet it is a new core game unit

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I didn't see it until now, so here it comes:
In the developers update from civ3.com, the "The Making of 'Sengoku - Sword of the Shogun'" article contains several screenshots, including one that shows several items from a build-queue.
City improvements:
- Temple
- Archives (Library?)
- Local magistrate (courthouse?)
- Noh-Kyogen Theatre (Colloseum?)
- Fief establishment (I have no idea what this is)
Units:
- Swordsman: 2-2-1 (30 shields)
- Samurai spearman: 4-7-1 (50 shields)
- Siege Crossbow: 0(5)-0-1 (50 shields)
- Samurai Archer: 6(2)-3-1 (archer with bombard ability !!!) (40 shields)
Once again, these are specific to the 'Sengoku - Sword of the Shogun' japanese scenario. (except for the temple, that is).
It is interesting that the swordsman is 2-2-1. I wonder if this is only for this scenario??

I hate to be nitpicky, and I know it is a little hard to read from the screenshot, but that should probably be Noh, not Non. Noh is a form of Japanese theatre.

Yeah, sure, it's Noh. I knew about Noh, but I've never heard of Kyogen, so that probably confused me.
Corrected.

Thanks guys for the update. I don't have much time these days, but I just updated the first post
Because of some heavy workload, I'll ask Ming to ban me from Apolyton for a short while. I don't know if I can still edit my posts while banned. ANyhow, if you want to include anything in the first post, please just write it here in a "first post" kind of way, and I'll copy/paste it in

now that's something i anyway don't understand.
i'm swiss, but i've never heard of swiss mercenaries defending the dutch?!? i only know there are some pseudo-bodyguards of the vatican and the pope (but they're more symbolical).
is there any dutch around here who can explain why, when and where?

thanks, interesting
but still no sign of why foreign mercenaries are a UU. as shown it the text, these were used in france, vatican, spain and other places.
i mean, come on... the swiss airforce has F/A-18 (modified version of the F-18). that doesn't make it our UU, or does it?

Sabrewolf at your request:
the Swiss mercenaries became the most important economic link between the two allied republics (the Netherlands and Switzerland). At the end of the 18th century, 21.000 Swiss solders were stationed in the Netherlands (more than three times the figure of Swiss who live actually in the Netherlands). The Netherlands at that time became the second employer of Swiss mercenaries, after France.
"de Meuron Regiment": Swiss mercenaries employed by the Dutch from 1693 who defected to the British in 1795.
For a sum of 4000 Pound Sterling, professor Hugh Cleghorn of St. Andrew’s University of Scotland (During this period he was their secret agent, a master of espionage or in other words) manoeuvred Count de Meuron’s Corp of Swiss mercenaries to desert whom they were fighting for and switch over to the British.
The Swiss were on their (the Dutch) finest fighting arms and without them with their combatants lessened, they were left high and dry and finally without much of a fight, the Dutch capitulated to the British and the Swiss were with the victors, the British and were known as Regiment de Meuron.
Conclusion, it could be the dutch UU but it could also be an conquest unit.
But if we get them as an UU we have to watch our back cause they would change sides when they are offered a bribe.

Just another quick comment on the Dutch as they are shown in the first post: the leader should be King William, not King Williams (unless Firaxis made an error).

well, if you would have read the thread it should be clear, that the swiss mercenaries should be the UU - if anything.
or a hellebardier, a replacement for the medieval infantry...
but now, back on topic

There isn't any swiss UU because there isn't a swiss civ The talk was about the dutch UU.
Btw, King Williams sounds nice. He'll fight against King McLaren, I suppose
