JNES World War III- Cold War turns hot
Note: THis NES is based on the book Red Strom Rising by Tom Clancy
The year is 1987. Terrorist have blown up a major Oil Refinery and the well next to it that supplied almost half of the Soviet Union's gas, and jet fuel. THe leadership of the Soviet Union is now dire straits to get a new source of oil for the economy of the Soviet Union to avoid total ruin. THey look to the oil rich Middle East as an answer to their problems, but first they must cripple NATO.
After 4 months of training and plaining the Soviet Union attacks West Germany. THe plan involves catching NATO off Guard and closing off the Northern Altanic to keep reinfocements and supplies to come in by sea and making it look like the West Germans tried to kill the leadership of the Soviet Union in order to try to reunite all of Germany and thus making some NATO countries and rest of the world from getting involved.
Ameircan intelligence catches wind that the Soviets are planing a massive attack on West Germany and millitary is placed on high alert and reinforcements sent to West Germany.
THe war start off with both sides gain major victories over the other. First the United States Airforce with their protype stealth fighters, the F-19(have enough for one fighter wing) attacked Soviet airbrone radar planes give NATO alliance a major advantage over air in Europe. Following the destruction of Soviet airbrone radar almost all major bridges in East Germany being used to move Soviet Armor and supplies are taken out along with the replacement bridges that were near them. Thus slowing down the Soviet advance into West Germany.
THe Soviets on the other hand gain a major victory too. In a operation called Polar Glory the Soviets were able to land a brigade of paratroopers with their equipment onto Iceland and attack the airfields with bombers before the United States hand a chance to reinfoce the island with Marines. THis also took out the Greeland to Iceland to Enland sonar net, allowing Soviet Subs free passage into through and being able to attack resupply convoys to Europe.
Now you finish the rest of the story.
Also NATO alliance only has 5 weeks of amo and other supplies for their armies and need the resupply convoys to get through. THey also lack the numbers of the Soviet army.
The Soviets only have four to six week supply of gas and need a quick victory in Europe and need to keep the Atanltic closed. ALso while the front line troops have modern arms, most of their reserves have out of date tanks and other arms and would get cut down up NATOs high tect weapons.

I will put up stats latter but you can start to claim nations now. I will also put a map up. This will not be moded and I will only step in for over the top stuff and things that dont make sense. Also every 2 days is one week and this NES will start 9/02/03.
Also you can be one of the other hunders of nations that are not listed here on the NES and I will make the stats up for that nation.
ALSO NO NUKES. Both sides agreed right at the start of the war not to use weapons of mass destruction, so their are NO NUKES!

ok, NATO then
EDIT:
These are the countries that were part of NATO and not also listed under your "major powers":
Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France (Politically only, not militarily), Iceland (Occupied), Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, West Germany, Spain.
I assume, then, that I may take military and external political command as NATO over all of these except France and Iceland? How much domestic/policy power do I have over individual countries?

YOu have complete controll over all NATO countries accept United States, Canada. Greece and Turkey have bought the Soviet story of the Germans trying to reunite and refused to help.
Iceland is now under Soviet controll with an entire division of paratroopers that were airlifted in along with 30 fighters.

Now I could be ignorant of my Russian history, but didn't the Soviet Union economically and militarily control the Warsaw Pact?

You are not ignorant of your history in this instance, but given the choices of: a) Making all Warsaw Pact countries part of the USSR, b) Leaving Eastern Europe as a jumble of small, weak countries that no-one would want to use, or c) merging all the eastern European countries together, Jack has apparently gone for option c).

I put warsaw pact as one power that someone could use. Now they could not possibly go against the Soviet Union. but yeas eastern europe is a spreate nation in the NES not part of Soviet Union.

The sources I looked at say that Denmark was part of NATO, Norway wasn't, and Austria and Yugoslavia weren't Warsaw Pact members.

I don't know about the stats...even if they aren't correct, they look like they will serve as well as any.
Also, could we please wait until September 02 to start actions? I won't be back until then.
