Here's how to identify Indians.
Leave them alone in a room with a bottle of your vodka. On your return....
If the bottle is untouched, the room has been meticulously tidied and they're aready griping about how much you owe them, they're Gujaratis.
If the bottle is untouched but they've moved in their extended family, they're from Assam.
If the bottle is untouched, but the contents of your bathroom cabinet are all gone and they're looking for the bong, they're Indian Muslims.
If the bottle is empty, the room is trashed and full of people drinking cheap Scotch, and a huge bearded man has you in a headlock and is telling you that you're family, they're Sikhs.

Uhm, I'm no expert in meeting ladies, but I would surmise that your first step would be to learn her name, so at least your obsession has a name.
So go ask her name. Take it from there. Just keep a conversation going (cover the basic talking points: where she's from, what her major is, what dorm she's in, what music she likes, etc., etc., until you find something in common and discuss it -- if you post here you can't be TOO bad at carrying on a discussion.
