Please can we lose those Godawful "Star Trek" quotes?
You know the ones- the ones that appear in the "Here is something to think about while..." box.
This is a nice feature. It can feature pithy little quotes or riddles, but it's just swamped with Trekkie drivel. I've just been informed "The deflector shields just came on Captain". What am I supposed to think about? Reminiscing over William Shatner's corset?

I have to admit that I enjoy the Star Trek quotes. I remember watching the series during first runs back in the 60's. What I think about during the inane quotes is what the cultural message that Star Trek sent during a very trying time for our culture.

I'm sure it's on Dan's to do list. Way down on the list, on the area of the paper, where the coffee cup is placed.

Are you volunteering to go through the fortune quote files, edit out all the Star Trek quotes, and send the revised copy to Dan? Good luck.

What happened to all the new quotes? I've never seen them, yet I always seem to get the trekkie quotes. Granted I like them, but I'd like to see more of the ones submitted in the quotes thread not too long ago.

I think it would be cool if all the quotes were actually funny excerpts from forum threads.

Some of us prefer to browse without the sigs. Of course, I rarely ever read those something to think about things anymore.

I believe they should delete all the quotes, and then just populate the database with our quotes. There are two threads full of them.
Then again, it is a low priority thing.

Frankly there ought to be more CIV quotes.

Defently...
I have only seen star trek a few times, and got pretty bored, those quotes means nothing to me

Even worse though are the "random passage from a book" quotes that start out promising but end up not having any point. They should go.

Maybe we should have a commitee rewrite the quotes section.

Well IIRC they were added to, then the original ones returned. After that there were some efforts to collect quotes to use, but I don't think anything came of it.

Those CtP source code "quotes" have to go. Far worse than Trek quotes.

Where do the quotes come from? Are they a collection gathered by the mods themselves or are they from some outside source?
Why doesn't the button to pause the screen work? Some of the quotes are way too long to read in 2 or 3 seconds.

The button works if you time it right. Plus, that 'back' button is there for a reason.

It does work if you hit it before the next page starts loading. If the page starts loading, though, you have to click stop.

I dunno where those files are by default in RedHat, but in Gentoo all you would need to do to remove the Star Trek quotes is to:
# rm /usr/share/fortunes/startrek*

My understanding is that st_swithin collected/submitted a lot/most of the quotes in the beginning of polyland...
