Our imperium 1180AD--> 1400AD
Phew more then 3 hours ... but I think we can be happy, I used quite some gold for rushing(wall's etc, you'll see that I had my reasons, btw almost all of the things were already under construction, but events made it necessary to hurry up)
At this moment we have 30 cities, which could be considered a seriuos nightmare when talking about happines...but that should be over in some 30turns when we have Fundi.

I'll include some notes for the next president after I have posted the screenshots.

Our history:
1180AD: renamed all former Roman cities
1. Rome=Atomant’s Hell
2. Veii=Bear’s Cave
3. Neapolis=Inferno
4. Pompeii=Purgatorio
5. Antium=Shadowpalace
6. Viroconium=Gehinnom
7. Cumae=Heretics Village
Got NONE musket man from hut.

1200AD: Elephant attacks New Apocalyps and dies(Pikemen->vet), Elephant attacks Havoc, our pike dies(elephant is barely wounded ) -->lost Xin-ability in Havoc, Our Legion In Rack kill’s the Greek Catapult. Rush Musket at Havoc(only 1 pike there and an elephant knocking at the door).

1220AD: Elephant attacks Havoc again(second pike dies Havoc= size3) American diplo does a checkup of Shadowpalace(must be the name that got them interested ), and our brave settler survives an attack of an American Horseman near plenty. I use it to build the city of Phlegethon on the river south of Plenty. I use the fresh Musket man to finish of the elephant and becomes veteran , get 150G from Barbleader.(use it to rush a musket for Phlegethon)
Discover advanced tribe 7 squares from Washington it was called Mendes, but renamed it to Sheol. It’s a size 3 city(3 red faces, black without temple) with a granary, temple and a marketplace.(I sold the Granary, since we have pyramids, for 60G)

1240AD: our crusader in Greece got killed by a knight. Bribed an other Greek knight for 120G(choice between losing a diplo or 2 or losing 120G and gaining a unit is easy) Chased Zulu horse away from Shadowpalace. Killed yet another Greek catapult approaching Dominion.

1260AD: There was a second Knight(he killed the diplo , We got Metallurgy and are now researching Conscription. The Americans switched govt=> Republic(ie still bribable but expensive), Rush wall’s a Rack(was already building them but the wounded Greek Knight made the workers go in overdrive ) Bribe one of 2 American chariots near Buffalo(we have no long range units in this city, so now we have)

1280AD: second chariot attacked Buffalo, we lost a phalanx, the bribed chariot proved it’s loyalty by killing the attacking chariot. Legion at Rack disposed the Greek knight. Killed an American settler too.

1300AD: Got Cease Fire with Greek...tried to bribe Halicarnassus(just to have an idea of the pricetag: size4 city and would cost 316G) we now have an embassy with he Greek(the foreign ministry’s work just doubled
The Greek have 20cities, are a monarchy and are researching Mysticism (the Americans are researching navigation...something they demand for a peace-treaty...maybe we could consider giving it to them so they can research something we also might desire ). We also seem to be the only contact of the Greek(strange).
Discovered the Zulu city of Bapedi

1320AD: Zulus build Copernicus, Americans discover Navigation, Now they are researching Physics. An Amarican chariot ran into the walls of the fortress surrounding our chariot near Buffalo...there were no survivors found, our chariot is still trying to wash the blood of the walls.

1340AD: Rush wall’s at New Apocalyps(a knight next to your city makes you do such silly things)
(Chicago would revolt for 690G... important for the future ), Sabotaged the production of their library.
( I think I found a way to force a civ to hold a cease fire: at the end of each turn you ask an audience(and don’t frustrate them to start a war) )

1360AD: wow nothing happened...no-one was attacking us

1380AD: killed a catapult near Phlegethon, and a chariot near Sheol(both American), There is a catapult left near sheol, it will be in range next turn), found the American city of Cincinnati, withdraw Crusader(backup will have to come in the future from the knights and other crusader nearby) The city is located very close to Heretics village and Shadowpalace. Got tired of Greek Cease Fire and killed 3 of their knights...I hope the pikemen+citywall’s+river will be enough to keep New Apocalyps safe from the 4 th knight.

1400AD: It was enough...the Greek knight was killed while attacking, killed 1 Greek catapult which was stationed next to the city, Got a NONE-Dragoon from a hut. Here ends the Rule of Pharao Shade.

Shade, retireing to Shadowpalace.

Okay, with metallurgy that leaves us to research:

Conscription
Fundamentalism

Explosives

Steam Engine
RailRoad

Leadership
Tactics

We are really close to some awesome technologies.

Well done shade.

World
The old Roman empire.

note Cincinnati (suggest we try to take it over/out asap)
note2 don't trust the Zulu chariot, it moved to our knight instead of away last turn, although we are at peace with the Zulu I think this will become a sneack-attack--> I suggest before ending the turn our next pres goes talking to the Zulu's just keep status quo, or he takes our the chariot himself.

The diplo embarked on an exploring/embassy-building trip trough the black to the Zulu's.

Some far-away cities trying to survive on their own(and doing quite fine actually)

First Pestilence and Plague are currently beeing used to build a small sub-country on a road to connection with the cor of our imperium. To that goal Pestilence is building Settlers and defence units for future cities.
The settler in the circle is on a path to a hill(129,23) where it should build a city(2 specials visible)...but it also could be used to build on the river south of that hill.

Rack and Ruin are doing fine now. Ruin may not grow under any circumstances(it would 1 couse unhappiness and revolt,2 have a food shortage). The settler North of Rack and Ruin will have to irrigate his way down to the 2 cities if we want them to expand any further.

Our Southpole-sub country.
also trying to become an entity strong enough to widstand barbaric troops.
Settler is on his way to build a new city at (106,74). This is a site on a river with 1 visible special.
New settlers are beeing build in Famine to fill this region (the rivers) with cities. An old but good idea of our cityplanner.(don't think of happiness-problems we will be fundi soon then it's all over)

note 1: New Apocalyptica is a magnet for Greek troops(abuse this situation!) they always come from the orange circle over the river.
note 2: Devastation is size 6 (try not to forget it when you Xin! --> keep it size 6)
note 3: Phlegeton looks like it will become a magnet for the units of the south part of the American civ(very close to the old Indian cities)

Xinning
Our core-cities.

the arrows show the directions from where the Greek knights 90% of the time come.
For Imperialis they always seem to get stranded just not close enough so those units can be taken out easily with the pressent crusader.

Dominion seems to have reached size 5(ready to Xin I would say). Please don't change the production of the wall's there to something else(eg library or market) for Xinning, reason is you will almost every 4 turns a greek unit appearing close to Dominion.(arrows) Sending out units to post on the mountains might sound like a good idea, but reallity is that everything that crosses the glacier gets killed, our units and the Greek units. It's the best defence you could imagine. Love it, trust it but don't tempt it .

The University of majestica is almost finished(Xin wise and you get it in half the turns)

And Finally North America.
yes I didn't start a full-scale war vs Washington:
1) It's their capital city--> at least 4 or 5 defenders(muskets in this case)
2) Wall's
3) River
4) look at the numbers of the surrounding cities
5) Sheol, Styx and Buffalo are still under construction

so this will take quite some planning to take out their capital at once.

To the next president/Cabinet
Take a very good look at all the above. This is a lot of info which should be taken into account whan planning anything.

an other note due to our current happinesprob we need a temple in a city before martial art even can be taken into account.
A temple and 3 defence units are just enough to keep a size2 city happy (3 needs an elvis) so don't just go about disbanding units even if they are way outdated.
Don't worry about building new cities, it can't get much worse then this, but make sure you can send in a defender asap because a temple will be the first thing you'll want/need to build.

Greek attack routes are very predictable(see above) so there is no need to go and meet them halfway.

To the future President: send me your mail adress so I can deliver you the save and my crown

Good luck to the next cabinet, you will need it.

Shade

President Shade - An astonishingly great session on your part and the screenshots and explanations were magnificent! I think that may have been one of the best-played sessions under adverse conditions of any of our Civ2 demo games. You may now retire with great honor and applause! Hydey had BETTER (hint, hint) send along your most beloved Amazon Guards to accompany you to ShadowPalace!

It was not expected that you would be able to mount an attack on Washington in this session, so no problem there. The attack will take considerable planning and development whenever it occurs, but I see no possibility of it soon, though it is our next goal.

Great management of xinning, rushing, gold from Barbs, killing attackers, etc.

Oh, and "Bear's Cave"... You are too kind. I positively quiver with embarrassed pleasure over the honor. I will arrange to take up residence there immediately.

Examining the screenshots:

The Greeks have lost 15 Knights and 9 Catapaults!

We have embassies with the Greeks and Amnericans

The Greeks have no allies or enemies they are at war with

The Americans have met the Zulus but otherwise are same as Greeks above

Greeks have 20 cities, Americans 15, we have 30

It is really quite amazing how many techs we have

I am surprised we are 1st in approval rating with all our unhappiness problems

We are holding ground on overall production though our production-per-capita is weak (because we have many cities)

If we take Washington, the American civ may split into different civs (3?)

Cincinnati should be taken before it builds city walls (isn't that an orange line around the city?)

We are developing a really good road structure and the irrigation projects are sensible

It really slows down the Greeks to have to attack us across ice and tundra. Of course that will work opposite when we attack them. We should find better approaches

I love the Barb ship on the pond north of the Greeks. LOL

Sheol should be defended strongly. It is our best launch point against Washington

We can easily overcome that by roading the 2 tiles next to the glacier I would think, any unit aproaching will be in city radius so visible, so we can just send out a crook and kill anything that comes too close.

Good to know. I've never had a civ split in my games, so I wasn't sure what might happen.

With all those american walls, our foreign minister should start on the wall-softeners.

River defenses with the Musketeers will still be tough!

This is a good place to consider the defensive value of Musketeers on river with city walls versus Crusaders and assuming both are Vets (assuming the Americans built Baracks).

Exercise to the citizens: Calculate both. How many Crusaders should we need to defeat 3 Musketeers in Washington?

I guess 3 or 4 crucs/musket...ie at least 15crucs who should have to arrive and attack the same turn and hope we have at least one left that can take the city that turn.

(btw I would guess there would be 4 or 5 of them in Washington (if not 6), the AI loves a lot of defenders in it's cap)
