Exotic pets. Do you have one?
If so, what is it? (Exotic does not include cats, dogs, budgerigars, hamsters - you get the idea).
I was watching a TV programme last night on the creatures some people keep as pets. Unbelievably stupid! That cute bundle of fluff is going to grow up to be a leopard and one day it is going to want something fresher than tinned cat food.
Then I came across this story.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/3195937.stm

He's big, he's a carnivore, he's terrorising the neighbourhood's residents, he's been swimming in people's pools and he's already claimed victims - several cats, a dog and apparently even a horse.
Komodo Dragons can grow to over three metres
In Lebanon, a giant lizard has been roaming the streets of a Beirut suburb for several weeks, eluding all the attempts by the authorities to catch it.
He's Lebanon's own Komodo Dragon, or so say the witnesses who have seen him.
Komodo Dragons are an endangered species and live in Indonesia.
They belong to the family of monitor lizards.
It's believed that the one living just outside Beirut was brought to Lebanon by a German who lived here and eventually set him free.
About three months ago, one person sighted him, but his tale was dismissed as that of a crazy person.
But when pets started disappearing, people started paying attention.
It's still possible that the dragon is not a dragon at all, but one of many kinds of monitor lizards, all of which are carnivores.
The civil defence has stationed dozens of personnel all over the area, but it lacks the sophisticated equipment needed to catch the lizard without harming it.
The civil defence is now trying to take a picture of the lizard to prove it is indeed a Komodo Dragon and sent an appeal for help to nature and science TV channels.

So, what's yours?

I have a 15 months old son. Sometimes I feel that I would rather have an exotic pet

What's the point? If they made good pets they would have ceased being exotic a long time ago.

It was a pretty good programme though, I don't think people should keep the kind of pets portrayed but these people lived for them so they will turn out ok.
And that leopard was fabulous, so was the meercat btw .

One thing I don't understand:
Ferrets are illegal in CA as the F' with the livestock (Turkeys, chicken, etc...) yet at the pet store they still sell items tailored only to Ferrets... I hate this and I really am sick of seeing it. I have raised the issue with PetCo and they say that people use the stuff for other things... Yeah, right... They can't even name one other reason ppl might buy a "ferret farm" or a Ferret "cady"... F' them, and if I ever see a ferret I will shoot it

Ever see a puff adder?
They are awesome..like a baby cobra, they hiss and strike at you but arent poisonous, they actually flatten their head out and are fairly entertaining, actually i ran into one in Olde Point area of Eastern North Carolina, showed him my best buddy the shovel....havent seen the snake since..or even parts of the snake for that matter

I'd like to raise mink or chinchila one day. Just so I can kill the little bastards and make my wife/girlfriend a fur coat.
