Likewise, when we are talking about the community here, I pay more attention to the same because I know he has been around here a while and should be closer in touch with the pulsebeat of this community. If a "settler" starts saying change this and change that, is anyone going to really listen? If a "diety" does it then it at least gets a good read and a little thought from me. I think that post counts and titles are a good thing. One of the reasons we have mods with PCR power is to make sure that a spammer doesn't reach those levels simply through spamming.

Well most of the emperors and Deities here, got their titles by posting in the Off Topic or democracy game forums. Neither of which can be said to give them any credibility in game related matters. But I see where you're coming from

You forget that most of the deities and emperors were originally on topic posters... and while yes, some of their posts came from the OTF, the majority are hard core gamers who have been here a long time.

Yeah....it may be that I'm looking at it through the wrong glasses. When I registered at Apolyton, there wasn't much going on, except in the Off topic, SMAC and Civ 2 forums, with off topic (most notably the coffee shop) being a major source for +1's. But sure, everybody here, including myself are gamers.

Yes, many of us were posting on-topic totally unaware that the OTF even existed. I didn't visit there until probably a year after I started here. But then CIV II forums were hot back then.

His posting rate went way up after starting to moderate. And so did his OT prescence. But I thought then and still do, that Ming was a brilliant choice for moderator. It was a different thing back then. Very hard for anyone to be accepted as a mod. The resistance is long broken now. But at that time, it was very laissez faire.

Not really. Many of the newer Emperors and Kings got their post count mostly from on-topic discussion of Civ3 and games released since then that were covered by this site.

That strikes me more as a moderation issue than as a spam post count issue. If all mods left the OT for a week (or maybe even less) I think you'd come back to lots of pointless spam like that.

Agreed. Area 25, and, to a lesser degree, Area 19 proved that given the chance to spam, posters will do so. Not all posters, to be sure. But enough that the forum will experience a change of culture.

But posts in those areas counted, so that doesn't prove that posters will spam for spam's sake as opposed to spam for +1's.

That was what I was thinking when I thought the overall volume had decreased. But if you took those out, you're probably correct in saying it didn't decline too much.

Tbh I doubt there is more than a handful of emperors who have not, at one time or another, been heavily into at least one Civ game.

I'd say less than only 15% of my counted posts were in the OT. And that wasn't till much later.

Demogamers have to be good with whatever game they play. Without credibility, a minister would never keep his position.
Look at what happened with our second president, both inexperienced with Demogames, and with Civ2.
I think you need to look more closely at the Demogamers to see our contribution to the forums. You may even stay.

I didn't mean that those who participate in democracy games aren't good at the games they play. I only meant that the fact that you play democracy games doesn't nescessarily mean that you are great!! at the game in question. That's all.

It's the guys in the Demo games who ONLY post things like "sounds good to me" that you have to worry about
