Nah...I was just my way of letting Ming know that he had stepped on my toes. But that it was okay, 'cause in this case I deserved it

Probably not.
Although I like to imagine that he is a polite person, even though he is a mod

Community Spam Count
First, let me say it's good to see that Chris 62 has tastefully backed out of this thread.
When I first looked at this thread, I gave it little thought, since similar discussions happen around the site from time to time. But I noticed the over 1300 Views and 190 Replies. That made me curious, so I did a post count by name within the thread.
Names appear in the order they first appeared in the thread. Top Spammers, er, Most Prolific Posters are in BOLD.
Chris 62 -- 3
Skanky Burns -- 10
ixnay -- 1
Frozzy -- 5
Asmodean -- 25
geeslaka -- 5
Asuka -- 1
DrSpike -- 18
Solver -- 1
rah -- 32 (except we all know that, by definition, mods can't spam. )
Oerdin -- 2
alva -- 1
Harry Seldon -- 3
mrmitchell -- 1
skywalker -- 1
Verto -- 2
Ming -- 10 {another Mod exception (sigh)}
Tuberski -- 1
Plato -- 2
spartak -- 1
Gatekeeper -- 5
TCO -- 15
Qilue -- 5
badams52 -- 3
Alex -- 1
Big Crunch -- 7
Ben Kenobi -- 6
MichaeltheGreat -- 1
Comrade Tassadar -- 1
Ecthylion -- 9
atawa -- 2
Master Zen -- 4
Defcon5 -- 1
Nuclear Master -- 1
flipside -- 1
Rob_S -- 2
Rhothaerill -- 1
Park Avenue -- 1
Total number of posts = 191
Number of posters = 38
Average # of posts per person = 5.02
Percentage of posts from the 7 people in BOLD = 119/191 = 62.3
Percentage of posts from Mods (incl 1 from Solver) = 43/191 = 22.5%
Percentage of total from the 11 ppl with at least "average" (5+ posts) activity in thread = 79.6% (80% rule)
Posters with only 1 or 2 posts = 21/38 = 55.3% (acutally, 22/39 = 56.4% when this goes up)
Not sure what this all means, but if nothing else, thought a few facts might stimulate meaningful discussion of spam as defined by post count (vs. content).
Of course, we expect to see that discussion carried on primarily by the spammers...
And no, I did not count Chris 62 as a Mod...
(Edited for spelling, typos, and to add a stat or two.
Shouldn't meaningful additions like that deserve a +1??)

Seems rah has little cause to take potshots at the demogamers.
If I'm lucky, I might get that many posts in a week on the Civ2DG.

I would expect mods to have high post counts in a lot of threads in this forum since people are asking questions or just trying to get clarification on things. Who else will officially answer these questions, or warn the spammers? The obvious answer is staff members.
RAH
Thank you for letting me help clarify this issue.

Hmmm.... I wonder if JRabbit actually wasted his time counting them instead of just clicking on the number of posts and cutting and pasting like this...

This took about 3 seconds... how long did it take you JR?
Next time JR... learn how to do it the easy way

Nope. Bored at work during a late lunch.

Did it the stupid (well, technically, just uninformed) way.

That doesn't work in the light style though. Alas.
And for a "prolific spammer" as it were, I'm not doing too well - although I am still equal with Ming. That in itself is an achievement.

Well, of course it is possible to have a high post count in a thread, without spamming it (depending on what definition you use for spam).
I seem to be the most posting non-mod in this thread. I just went over all my posts in this thread again. Nearly all of them are on-topic.

This has always been a hot topic, and people like to get their two cents in on it. This is just one of many threads that have been started on it. I usually leave them open until an Owner makes an appearence, or until it turns into a total spam fest.
I used to be a big supporter of including OT posts... But MarkG was right... The spam level in the OT dropped a lot. Yeah, there is still tons of spam compared to the on topic forums... (well, maybe not compared to this forum or the Demo Game Forums ) but it did decrease. The Coffee shop used to get to 500 posts in a matter of days... now, you have to look hard to find it. Notice we don't see word association threads... or any of the other pure spam threads that people used to +1 or in some cases +10 in.
And as far as the staff posting in threads like this... Mark and Dan are busy... and have long to do lists when they have time to spend on this site. While Dan will usually make a nightly check to answer questions... sometimes he can't. The staff members, as well as many of the regular posters... pretty much know the standard answers... since we have seen the owners post them often enough. Just trying to do our part while Mark is off doing his military thing, and Dan pays attention to the things only he can do.

Just because there is an attempt to make posts coherant doesn't mean a thread isn't a spam fest .

I'm quite surprised to see this thread amazingly doesn't qualify under that definition!
(Oh yes, I guess it's because of the deep and profound level of philosophical content in each post...case in point the slippery eel comment )
