I can't believe I found this funny but I think I just wet my pants. Not that your condition isn't serious, Cruddy.

Silly me, forgot all about that! It has been so long since I had played in a melieu with the original AD&D magic description. Everyone I knew modified it with some kind of system like your Astral Pool (Mana or Magic Points).

Whoosh---BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
Loadsafun. The silliest RPG of all time, without a doubt, was Paranoia.

How could I forget Twilight 2000! Although when I was gming that to start off with my players had a slightly terrifying penchant for mutilating the bodies of the people they killed.
There was an add on for that called Merc 2000 which we switched to and Dark Conspiracy which was based on the same system. I GMed a game of Merc which combined elements of Dark Conspiracy which made it kind of a Mercenary version of the x-files. That was excellent. The highlight was probably an Enter the Dragon style martial arts tournament (with a twist).

Twiligth 2000 was so awfully unrealistic at times. We had to change the damage system considerably. Also, one got so much equipment from the start if one followed the game to the letter, you could almost by your own tank. A assault rifle, a few hundered rounds and a few other essentials was enough.

I think he meant the options for which RPG to nominate as best of all time.

The way I saw it it was designed like an action movie. Normal troops were basically cannon fodder for our heroes to tear apart, even then weight of numbers could cause knockdowns that would really ruin the party's day. If the group is 3/4 strong and they encounter an enemy platoon of 50 troops, they'd better not engage them. Also each adventure would need to have much tougher enemies (similar stats to the players) to provide them with something to worry about.
Also, the players could get themselves a tank if they wanted. They'd have to do something exceptional for me to let them get enough fuel/ammunition to actually fight with it. Plus most players didn't pick the vehicle/heavy weapon skills because they knew that pretty much all they could find would be rifles and small arms ammo.
That said, I much prefered the Merc 2000 world as one to run in. Then you really could run things like a series of action movies. I stole plots from several, then twisted things just as the players thought they knew what was going on.

The Morrow Project is a much more interesting post-holocaust game.

Ah. It's not a very popular system.

Avalon Hill's "Dune" was a unique hybrid of RPG and board game. It is still quite enjoyable to this day and you can find Dune PBEM games on the internet. It would be great to see an adaption for the PC, but creating one would be a difficult task, I think.
