Sid Meier's Pirates! Website
No...it's not up yet. But there's a pretty good chance that it'll be called www.pirates2.com. Here's why:

Even if they weren't going to call it pirates2.com (which they probably will), Infogrames would have bought up the domain name anyway to stop anyone else using it - and to make that URL redirect to whatever other official site they're using.

Or how about www.sidmeierspirates.co.nz?
This could be a New Zealand site that has a whole bunch of Sid Meier's games that have been pirated.
Oh...hold on...have I misunderstood something here?
I think my fate might be

Thou shalt not use any .net TLD for wesites other than ones dealing with Net infrastructure.
This is one of the Commandments of the Net.

And like most Commandments of the Net, it's widely ignored, since those who come down from the mountain with the stone tablets happily let parasitic scum grab up names with abandon and hold them off the market, thus making many .com TLD's unavailable to "real" businesses. And their arbitration procedures are crap, so don't even go there.

I.e. the owners of ACS must be arrogant as they don't obey the actual TLD policies.

Whats the bet anyone here could find over a dozen sites that also break this "commandment"?
Besides, Poly is part of the net structure.

As we've already proved in a thread in the community forums, Apolyton practically owns the internet.

I'm still kind of cheesed off that we won't be getting a pirates forum. Dan and Markos must get on their knees and worship Sid.

You're more on target than you think.
Years ago, even after SMAC was released, all SMAC related discussion had to take place in the "Other Games" forum. Only after Mark and Dan saw how intense the level of posting was, did they decide to make a SMAC section.
It really was a Civ site back then.

I only suggested it because I've been told that our DnD groups may need to do it to get our own forum. We're kind of doing it with chess here, too. We'll see.

I was waiting for someone to ask that!
Well, you see, the Chess-Creation forum would be used for all things pertinent to playing chess creatively. Like, for instance, playing chess on a spherical board.
http://www.endprod.com/chess/sphere.htm
This here site only contains conceptual renderings, but I've actually seen one of those IRL. Couldn't find any pics on the net, though.
PS: Don't you just love how it works out? Now, we are magically back on topic of "Other Games" - spherical chess.

That was a problem with Network Solutions. However, there are almost an infinite number of valid combinations of characters to create TLDs with, so if AT&T wasn't fast enough to get att.com, they could always get atnt.com, or at-t.com, etc.
ICANN's arbitration procedure is so in favour of businesses, that any individuals with valid reasons for domain names (such as people with the surname of Ford) get screwed almost 100% of the time.
