Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Ok, I'm not a Star Wars fan at all, but I went searching for the latest demo's. I downloaded this one and it is brilliantly done.
It dwarfs Enter the Matrix's fighting moves, the graphics are extremely well done, the addiction is certainly high (found myself wanting to finish the game 3 times in a row).
It can be either a 1st person or 3rd person view game, the controls are not hard to use. Let me give you an example of why this game is great: I jumped down onto a platform below and as I was in mid air, a guy on another platform was across from me, I literally pulled him off the platform (using some jedi skill telekinesis) and made him fall to his death. (the map has some sort of bottomless pit all around it); and just before I landed, there was another guy standing on a ledge to where I was going to land, I literally pushed him using telekinesis again. He also fell to his death and I safely landed on the ground.
It's so easy to feel like an unstoppable God in this game, there are like 20 different skills each with powerups which you can learn, on top of that, you have the choice of 3 different light sabres (single, double and that twin-joined one you first saw in Phantom Menace). Each with it's own attack moves.
This game is just about perfect I highly recommend it. I did not see one bad thing in this game at all! (and I usually do with games!)

I have left these alone, as I found a few star wars games crap, just cashing in on the name.

I'm looking into buying it myself. But Homeworld2 is on its way also, and I'm poorer than milk.

Knights of the Old Republic is a good one, too. How big's this demo?

I'm guessing you have a high speed connection. One day I need to get it at home. I miss out on alot of these demos and MP games because my connection is so slow.

I've settled for a good download manager and leaving my PC running for 30 hours to get these modern demos.

Do you have multiple phone lines as well? Another problem is attempting to download large files or play involved MP games online means not being able to order a pizza for delivery. So even if I had the patience to download games as big as Jedi Academy it'd be ten MB at a time.

You could always leave your computer on overnight.

True, and I have in the past, but I'm lacking firewall software after getting a new pc with XP installed. Maybe later I can try again. I've become incredibly spoiled downloading things at work with our connection. So far I've been able to burn downloads to CD here.

If you get DSL, your phone-line becomes free (available for use at the same time as being connected to the net).

I just finished playing through the demo tonight. Excellent stuff . I must say, though, fighting off those twin-lightsaber baddies is a real pain; I found the best approach was to wait for them to approach, parry their inital strike and then counter-attack. Trying to be the aggressor just got me killed (I used a single lightsaber, medium style). Sometimes the combination of force grip + lightsaber throw did the trick, though.
And what's with those Dark Jedi who don't even carry a lightsaber? They've got a devastating force push; I got shoved off ledges and fell to my death at least 2 or 3 times at the hands of those guys.

Yeah it wasn't as good as good old C&C, dunno why that is really, it looks as if it has good potential.
Jedi A: The force grip is the best of them all
I assigned the force grip to the G key and the push to the Q key, so a quick force grip, then a push, and they go over the ledge

Due to your high praise for this game, I am downloading the demo off FilePlanet (in spite of the 60 minute wait!)
