Favourite sports movie
we may have had a thread on this before, but we need a new one.
Caddyshack was of course a classic.
But I also liked Bull Durham and Major League. Baseball movies are great. Even though baseball isn't really a sport I like that much, I like baseball movies. go figure.
My favourite sport, football hasn't produced that many great films I like. I watched Any given sunday a couple of years ago. Typical Oliver Stone overdramitization . And I couldn't believe Cameraon Diaz as a team owner- though she did look good. but she wasn't too bad I suppose.
Other films like Rudy, I just can't get into.
As for basketball movies, well hoosiers was okay- but too serious. I liked Blue Chips as well.
You can't forget Rocky though for the sport of boxing. Truelly a classic.

Yup. Blue Chips is good.
I also like Monday Night Mayhem on TNT a couple years ago (John Turturro as Howard Cosell).
But the best sports movie of all time has to be Major League.

I would say "Caddyshack", but golf isn't a sport. Therefore, I have to go with "Major League" as well.

I'm a sucker for sports movies. I even like ones on sports I can't stand - like football (Rudy, Remember the Titans).
Picking an overall favourite is just too hard, but I will say that among baseball movies, my top pick would be Bull Durham, followed by The Natural.

Bull Durham is by far my favorite, but I also love Field of Dreams. I love baseball . It also makes for good movies.
Slap Shot was great! As well as Major League.
The sports movies I HATED include Rudy and Rookie of the Year.

Chariots of fire
I enjoyed also "Any given Sunday"...seen with wife and brother in law..in English..I was the only one vaguely understanding what was going on. Not for the language but for the football jargon...

If somebody mentions The Main Event as a serious choice I'm gonna barf.
I'll nominate Raging Bull, though it isn't a fun movie and some might argue that it isn't even a true "sports" movie.

slap shot is easily the best hockey movie ever made.
bull durham was exceptional, and although it was kinda sappy, i still like field of dreams.

Rocky was a great movie. It was the sequals that made the series campy.

I liked "Rudy" quite a lot, and found it inspirational.
Of course, SOME people are unable to be inspired.
Also, "The Natural" and "The Rookie".

Field of Dreams
Bull Durahm
That one with Tom Hanks, Madonna, Rosie O'Donall, and Gina Davis.
I love baseball movies.

It's sappy cheesy dreck . The mere fact that it was actually a true story makes it even more pathetic. I bet you love 'inspirational' movies like "Rookie of the Year" .
If you want a true inspirational movie take a look at "Chariots of Fire".
I actually did like "Little Big League" as well. A story about baseball and a kid, which didn't seem too implausible (well for the most part).

Though of all sports comedies, Slap Shot & Major League are on top.
