The storm is actually smaller than the clouds themselves.
Troll, according to the NOAA site, www.noaa.gov, most damage and death from huricanes is actually caused by inland flooding from excessive rainfall. Consider the 11,000 Mitch killed a few years back in Honduras and Nicaragua when it just sat on them for three days pouring down rain.
Storm surge is very powerful, but it only affects a small area along the cost. Buty inland, everyone in a low lynig area has to get to higher ground.

From the radar map, it's looking bigger to me.

I couldnt agree with you more, thats why I stated at landfall Storm Surge, but indeed yes flooding inland .
I was in Honduras to build a church in the El Parasaio Province (or State)..in an area near Danli (Jutiapa) on the Nicurguan Border..I saw on my travel to there from Telgulcigalpa the remnants, I saw where the Swiss Govt built bridges, also Marine General West came to our church and we had helped with some supplies, he was in charge of the Marine detachment that helped with relief/recovery efforts.
Sad Cheg..very sad.
The Hondurans are my "adopted" family, as we in our church have sent 4 missionary teams there.
Peace

This sucks. I'm in Wilmington at a $200/night hotel with a cancelled class for Thursday, Friday. My work in Richmond is shutdown. I just fired a flaming turd accross some people's desks in another SBU and I'm dreading seeing the reposnse. And My kitties are in Richmond.
Should I stay tonight? Stay 2 nights? Go back to Riuchmond? Stop in DC? Visit kitty? Visit my VP of R at C friend in Philly?

That's odd. It looks like it's going through the white stuff straight on at Pittsburgh. But on the other hand, we are in the white?
Can anyone tell me what we are likely to experience?

I wasn't sure if I was going to walk home tonight, but now I think I am (the person I was going to study with doesn't appear to be here)

Checked www.weather.com, apparently there are flood warnings for Pittsburgh as well as heavy rain predicted. My thoughts go out to all of you back in the DC Area(I am from there), good luck weathering the storm.

Head up folks.
Most schools, DC, and Federal government closed Thursday, and almost certainly Friday. Washington area subways and busses stop running 11 am tomorrow, most local passenger rail service closed tomorrow.

I hope you mean Wilmington, DE, not Wilmington NC

Maybe so, but some options are further from the sea.

That's not very penetrating advice. Should I zip home to Richmond? I am very tempted to do so. Only downside is if we lose power, that will suck. Would rather be sitting in posh hotel then...

DE (where I am) is furthest away. REston is closer and Richnomd even closer.
But you are talki9ng to a guy who (literally) ran the seawall with roomies at Annapolis at 0430 during a hurricane in the 80's. But now, I am older and no longer bulletproof. Plus my copr has "safety" as a core value...
hmmm....what to do.

I don't think Richmond will be in real danger. Just want to be there to watch the kitties and the house and to get some personal admin done. Work itslef is shot.
