Have been out power since Thursday and still am (posting from work). Lost water for a couple days. Now have water, but have to boil it. Very large tree hit my house and is leaning against it. Not much danger to the structure, but if it falls down to the other side or along the builiding it will hurt someone. Is at a 5-10 deg angle leaning against building. Wind moves it...

Most of my coworkers are still out of power at home. Damn suburbanites!
My electricity didn't even flicker once since it's all served underground. Since my condo faces the alley, it was almost like we didn't have a storm. I went out the next day and about a third of the trees lining the street were split in two at the trunk.

that really sucks
can you cut the tree off yourself?
I know that your being home did nothing, but it was probably good that you were

We had thunderstorms and tornadoes here yesterday (no tornado next to me, but very violent wind.)
The tree moved!!!
It is now off my house and standing back up. I think this is really dangerous. If it falls along my house, it will hit a main street and kill some people. It needs to come down. It is huge. 4 feet in diameter, 70 feet tall.
And if it hits back into my house it will hit harder, I bet. Or if it falls accross from me, it will have a lot of momentum and take down a brick wall house.
Nobody took me seriously and the tree has already moved once like I said it might with a thunderstorm!

I spoke too soon.
It was weird, the storm seemed very week. The wind didn't seem bad at all, and we just got a steady but not hard rain. Even so I lost power for 2 days.
Went out on Thursday, spent that night with my housemates cooking dinner around candle light and listening to AM on my handcrank survivalist radio. Friday I cleaned up most of the fallen limbs and branches in the yard. Ihad a pile 6 feet long and 3 feet tall on my curb. A shrub/tree thing tipped over and I got to hack it up with my neighbor's chainsaw. Then I waited in line for an hour for dryice before they ran out and I was turned away.
Friday night I drove 45 minutes north to Frederick to get some bags of ice at a liquor store to try and preserve my fridge food. Everywhere closer was completely sold out of ice. Saturday I drove down to AU to check my e-mail and hang out with friends who had power, and when I returned power was back! Hooray!
After two days of power, it went out again last night. Damn you Pepco!! I was working on my 'puter and talking to a few people when my house suddenly went black, then 2 seconds later the lights came on, 5 seconds later off again, half a second on again, and then after another 3 seconds off for a few hours. Everything came on again at like 2 in the morning and woke me up.
Some friends of mine are just getting their power back on now.

I just got it back this morning. blew me away. I thought I would have to wait another week. Most of my coworkers still don't have it. Richmond is so screwed.
I called the city and got a name of someone and told her that if that tree falls and kills someone, I will let everyone know that I warned her. She is sending firemen...again.
