Game sent to John and copy to everybody.
---------
BC
500 - There seems little point in reversing the late King Dave's perfectionist policy. Finchley may not be a Super Science City - but with no wonders we will have to settle for a Super Science Suburb! (I'm guessing that the City Walls building in the capital is a slow burn for an aqueduct?)
475 - Tech rate now 6 per turn with Finchley celebrating.
450 - Advance Tribe - Reading founded.
425 - Construction - next research target is Bridge Building. The bad news is that the tech rate is 10 - the last one was the 20th.
400 - Birmingham founded with Finchley's settler. Tech rate now 9
375
350 - Caravan: Dover to Finchley 26g; Oxford - Finchley 22g; Warwick - Finchley 26g
Richmond founded - Tech rate now 8;
325 - Wine mine at Finchley complete
300 - Leeds copper caravan to Finchley (demanded) 60g
275 - Finchley builds aqueduct - Bridge Building discovered - now the choice of our next research: Mysticism/The Republic/Seafaring/The Wheel are offered - I could make a case for all of them - but have put in Republic in case my successors want to take perfectionism a stage further! Mongol knight has just appeared! (NE of Reading - Now an ex-knight) Caravans: Canterbury to Finchley - 22g; Newcastle - Finchley 30g
250
225 Salt to Finchley from Norwich (demanded) 52g
200
175

More like an OCC log!!

Has anyone won with OCC without wonders ? Probably, but we should ask Paul.
It looks like a defeat of ICS, unable to respond to some "light" adjustements to the game.

Yes Ribannah won Dave's Headstart Game (no wonders except UN & Apollo) last Autumn playing OCC!

I don't think ICS is defeated. Wise players are always open new suggestions!

Well, I think we've found special circumstances where ICS was not a good option. I'm wondering what circumstances would cause OCC to be ineffective. Space technology to all ai civs ?
No doubt that DaveV is a good player !

There is a real danger that we could reach the 255 city limit on this game - what happened on the other giga succession game.

ICS is Infinite City Sleaze - so when the "Infinite" part no longer works we are by definition playing something different.

Back to the drawing board Julius! You have to get your No Limits patch working for all the sleazers!

I think I will give this one a go, I like the odds.
No OCC though for a change

OK, I finished my turn and forwarded the game to KCBob via e-mail, copied to others as well. Here then, is a log of my exploits.

A short history of the Tory tribe, 150 bc - 260 ad.

150 - Gold caravan, Warwick->Finchley, 25G
125 - Republic discovered. On to The Wheel (working toward invention). I have chosen not to attempt a Republican government at this time. Many of our cities are yet small and trade poor. I fear it would be all to easy for the support costs to impede the progress of important undertakings or for the lack of luxuries to cause too much unrest.
100 - Gold caravan, NewCastle->Finchley, 28G
75 -
50 - Finchley Builds Colosseum, (WOW! The people are so happy!) hut 50G
25 -
1 AD - Silk Caravan, Leeds->Finchley, 66G
20-260 - The events during this period hardly seem worth recording. Nothing of much note happened, but during this quiet time in history many great projects were undertaken. I have commanded our cities to produce settler units to round out our improvement forces. As I look out over or great(?) civilization I see our people building roads to increase trade, and inside our cities we are building temples to help deal with unrest, especially in the further reaches of our empire. One day soon it is hoped that we can replace our current monarchy with a more modern and efficient republican government. During this time several trade routes were also established. Our goal is to maximize trade for each city, but this goal must be balanced with a need for temples. Our scientists have been busy as well. In 75 bc we discoverd the wheel, and in 140 ad our wise men unveiled the secrets of engineering! As a final act during my reign I have ordered the builders of several cities to begin work on libraries, that our scientists might be able to conduct research faster.

So far, so good. The Lady Ribannah decided to keep her NONE Settlers to work the terrain around Castle Gobs, there is a bright future for the capital. Hopefully none of the great powers will notice us for the time being ....

The tiny village of Castle Gobs produced an extra Settlers fast, taking into account that a 1-size lone city cannot be disbanded. Shortly after, the first increase in city size was celebrated.
In the year 3000 BC the Settlers arrived at a nice spot for a new city (whales and pheasant, as detected by our explorer The Jolly Bard), to be founded within the next 50 years.
Our wizards have taken great steps towards a famous modern type of government, called Republic. We are not exactly sure what to think of it, after all Lady Ribannah is doing fine without any advice, but who knows?

-4000 Castle Gobs [19,163] already founded
{working peat, then 2xwine}
-3850 Alphabet, {peat,2xwine}
-3700 Writing, {whales,4xwine}
-3500 wine mined
-3450 Code of Laws, {whales,4xwine}
-3200 Settlers(Cas)
-3150 Castle Gobs=2
-3050 Literacy

Sorry for the delay but the game was sent to my work email on Friday and I only today received it. I'll get on it tonight.

BTW, Ribannah, I think you're posting in the wrong thread. You might want to start a new thread for the new game.

It's the same map, I thought it would be nice for comparison to have the log in the same thread - but if you think it is confusing I'll move it - no prob.

John, my profile won't let me put my Hotmail address in. You sent it to the correct one, so to speak. No problem.

Ribannah, I don't know about everyone else but I suppose I could keep them straight. My preference would be for a seperate thread, though.

I've got some good news and I've got some bad news (but not too bad).

I finished 10 turns and sent the game to my work email address for forwarding to the next player. Unfortunately, for some reason, I can't access it here. Rats! I'll forward it when I get home tonite.

Not much to report. Slow growth and a couple of triremes setting out on an exploratory mission. One question, though. Don't the Mongols ever want to come out and play?

Yeah, since there can be no interaction between civs any civ you meet has only 2 choices, attack you or ignore you. Personal experience says they won't ignore you.

Ribannah will probably finish before we do.
Don't worry, I'm not going to try to be friendly with the Mongols. The less we meet, the better.

Julius, I won't be posting my log ahead of you
The Mongols seem slightly more aggressive in my game btw, but we already have the better science.

I played this as isolated perfectionist(what else is there to do?) and won by spaceship in......nevermind for now.Took along time to get #1 in population.

Problem-no wonders.Is there a way,besides just not building any,to allow the ai to build them but not human civ?

No wonders always presents a challenge but even more challenge for the ai.Can wonders be given thru an events.txt?

Not sure about this ! The AI uses some wonders very badly - like building Copernicus in a three city generating as many beakers as population.

If the AI is allowed wonders the human player can always capture them ...

Well, guys, I wonder if you shouldn’t put me out of the roster. The progression was slow real slow and I was quite clueless. A little bit of expansion and a bit of improvement’s building is all I did. Sad but true. At least, we are not yet under attack.
480 AD Caravans to the south-east and triremes with diplo and knight to the north east.
500 AD 50 gold in a hut near the Mongol city of Capua.
520 AD Gunpowder discovered. Mysticism next.
540 AD New continent discovered in the north.
560 AD Crusader killed by Mongols.
580 AD Advanced tribe (Cambridge) in the new continent.
600 AD We kill Mongol explorers near Reading.
640 AD we learn that the Russians have undertaken the United Nation. My history book speaks about 1945. There must be something wrong.
680 AD. We have more than 2 millions of citizens.
700 AD. Mysticism discovered. Banking next.
760 AD. Advanced Tribe (Gloucester) in another new continent.
780 AD. Manchester founded in the little island west of our main continent. This island could be our naval base.
800 AD. Riflemen discovered in hut near Manchester. We’re by far the most advanced !!!
On this sad discovery, I give up and pass the game to DaveV

I think things progress faster if we let each player have more turns - rather than less.

How about up to 15 - but with the option of playing less if time is short?

1100 - King (NO settler jokes please!) Git 2 saw his priorities as follows:

a) Continue to build up Finchley (and keep celebrating) - using the legacy of the late King Dave's Food Caravans.
b) To improve infrastructure by the creation of channel ports with our mainland and the next continent north.
c) To improve the exploration of the world, (Navigation) and hopefully steal some AI tech!
d) Continue the small commodity caravans being sent to the capital.
e) To keep moving the stray camel in the vague direction of Reading!

Ipswich founded from Advanced Tribe; Portsmouth founded. Food caravan from Richmond to Finchley. Another Sewer System keeps building in Finchley - ready to change to a University when we have the tech. 50g from hut. Research rate now jacked up to 4 turns.

1120 - Finchley now 13.

1140 - Finchley now 14. Population over 3 million. Stranraer (Ferry Port) built.

1160 - Finchley now 15. University discovered. Next research is Seafaring for explorers and eventually Navigation. Larne (Ferry Port to complement Stranraer) founded. Berwick also founded.

1180 - Finchley now 16: University built.

1200 Bootle founded

1240 Seafaring discovered - Astronomy next research

1260 Finchley now 17

1300 Finchley now 18

1320 Astronomy discovered now for Navigation. Many small caravans have been delivered but this one is worthy of note: Finchley to Cambridge on a different continent yielded 192

1340 Stole Navigation from Mongols. Future players please note dips can't steal from Kabul We have an entry in the top 5 Cities! F8 reveals Finchley at No. 2. A couple of other cities begin celebtrating.

1360 Finchley now 19. Population 4.33 million - researching Chemistry (aiming at Explosives) at a maximum rate of 3 turns.
