Overall its not too bad. Theres some replayability in making different classes follow different paths with their feats and what not.
I never found to bugs too much of a problem until the unthinkable happened. Near the end of the game I cast teleport to get me back to town, and it hangs. No big deal I think, but my auto save loads at the moment it hangs....grr...... I load my quick save and.....NO.....A bug means its always the comps turn to move, and it doesnt
No save other than my auto save and my quick save! How tragic.

Ouch!
Its a very very bad idea in any game to rely totally on autosaves. Sorry you had to find out the hard way on this one.

Also the quicksave key is often next to the quickload key. It is easy to get pasted down to 1 health, then accidentally save instead of load. And if your autosave has also updated after the pasting you are screwed!
Always hard save at the start of each chapter.

I would never do anything so stupid. That time I did a huge chunk of half-life with 3 health was just to prove it could be done, not because I clumsily hit the wrong key.

I guess you arent hardcore enough to play just auto save?
The ironman mode in ToEE is quite good, however I cant even begin to imagine what I would do if that save got bugged.
Unfortunatly there is a way around the ironman limitation if your characters die, but you get bumped back to the last auto save. Its a pain they couldnt cover this very simple work around

On balance its probably just ass well considering how many people are ranting about the odd bug preventing them completing an iron man game.
The last time I forgot to manually save at intervals I lost 125 years of an EU2 game that turned out had not been autosaving properly. I try to make sure that never happens to me again

Nope (silly Atari QA people delaying it)
I have to admit, that despite my scorn earlier, I'm actually having a reasonable amount of fun playing ToEE. OK, the quests are totally broken and the story is non-exisitant, but the combat is pretty cool. You can just waltz around and kill everyone, which is nice
The quests ARE sooooo broken though

Are quests on the first official patch list of fixes? I can't imagine playing a DnD game without side quests.

The side quests are there, Harry, but most of them don't work The game was intended to be hack and slash anyway

That's what I meant. I don't mind the hack and slash but I like the the minquests to break the monotony of a long campaign. Maybe it's the Final Fantasy in me.

Just about every quest has worked for me, Jam, they just haven't been exciting in a Fallout kind of way. There's enough of them at the beginning to get to level 2 without fighting if you work at it, which makes the moathouse a lot easier. After that they thin out a lot, but there's quite a few in the temple if you aren't playing a kick-open-the-doors-die-scum-Holy-Avenger-of-Doom approach

Any idea if the removed brothel will somehow be downloadable? That or extra quests? I don't think there is an editor, as Troika said they focused on the module itself (had a tight deadline if I read correctly).
I played the 6 hours-Kazaa version, and this game looks like what I expected, but probably not up to Arcanum level.
I'll get it when it's available in France.
I wish there was a game like Morrowind but with the dialogue options as in Arcanum...

The brothel was HILARIOUS, really the best dialogue in the whole game (the Co8 patch unlocks it) you should really speak to the "ladies" with a high charisma femal character for the funnies
Grumbold - try doing the temple quests out of order, and see how robust the system is then
I'm quite enjoying the game now, I have to admit, even with its flaws. I always remember to save before trying to craft anything, and before talking to anyone.
***Tips/Spoilers***
Get the two big blue swords and the big yellow one. You'll be pleased about that. One blue one requires that you are good, and do somthing good, and the yellow requires that you are chaotic good, and do somthing pretty evil AND cheezey. Normally the two are exclusive, but you CAN get both with some cheeze
Get reach weapons and always step back 5 feet before attacking, so the opponents have to approach again and get another attack of opportunity.
Craft wands of the spells that cost money to cast. Then you can cast them 20 times for practically nothing.
Don't use Haste - it won't give your characters the extra attack for some reason.
You can use a bastard sword with one hand, with weapon focus+specialisation, with a sheild, and STILL get the strength bonus for a two-handed attack. Nice.
