I think a large part of this is due to the context in which the misspelled words are placed. I mean if there is a whole sentence then you have more to go on.

Prolly works better if the letters are displaced only a short distance from the proper position to gev some clue to the syllables. With "catasehicticrarl" the first r is moved at least 9 positions, which is far to confusing, etc.
