Please, please, use the GMT standard time when making appointments...! I have the feeling that using "EST" confuses people (at least it confused me) since some parts of the world seem to be on daylight savings time, and some are not.

To those people who have said EST - do you mean EDT which most of Eastern Timezone is on or do you really mean EST which is 5 hours behind GMT?

I don't even have a clue what GMT is... i think GMT is like 4 hours in front of me. The Timezones that I take are these
Pacific
Mountain
Central
Est
Atlantic
Right now it's 14:29 Atlantic, so 13:29 Est, 12:29 Central, 11:29 Mountain & 10:29 Pacific. My bet is that right now it's 18:29 GMT since it's shows Atlantic -4:00 in my Timezone compared to GMT.. but I'm not sure

I have a better idea, let's use the unix standard.
Number of miliseconds since January 1st, 1980 (GMT).

Thanks Epi. Great idea
Any time on sunday would work well, but for MWIA I would suggest something like 16:00 Eastern (20:00 GMT IIRC) or later, which would also work well for most euros. Please note that I am noted for being real bad at converting from and to gmt because of all the daylight and non daylight time BS..... so I might be off by an hour or so.

Can be usefull.

The Greenwich Meridian (Prime Meridian or Longitude Zero degrees) marks the starting point of every time zone in the World. GMT is Greenwich Mean (or Meridian) Time is the mean (average) time that the earth takes to rotate from noon-to-noon. GMT is fixed all year and does not switch to daylight savings time. GMT is World Time and the basis of every world time zone which sets the time of day and is at the centre of the time zone map. GMT sets current time or official time around the globe. Most time changes are measured by GMT. Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone. Greenwich Mean Time is international time, the basis of the world time clock. Marks precision time and military time (sometimes called Zulu Time). Defines date and time and exact time. The atomic time clock is adjusted by leap seconds to maintain synchronicity with GMT. So if you want New York time = Eastern Standard Time (EST) or EDT during daylight savings time, the time zone converter is here!

With this is mind I'll go for 1700GMT Sunday.

Alright, try this....
GMT = GMT + 0 hrs
EDT = GMT - 4 hrs
EST = GMT - 5 hrs
PDT = GMT - 7 hrs
PST = GMT - 8hrs
NZ time (me) = GMT + 12 hrs
Currently in the US Daylight Savings times are being observed, which are GMT - 4 hrs and GMT - 7 hrs respectively for the East and West coasts.
If we look at the time of Sunday1700GMT, this corresponds to:
2000 Jerusalem
1900 Berlin
1800 Paris
1700 London (duh!)
1300 New York time
1200 Mexico City/New Orleans
1100 Denver
1000 LA
0500 Wellington (NZ) (Monday)
Or 2200GMT means
0100 Jerusalem (Monday)
0000 Berlin (Monday)
2300 Paris
2200 London (duh!)
1800 New York time
1700 Mexico City/New Orleans
1600 Denver
1500 LA
1000 Wellington (NZ) (Monday)
I find this site useful as it is a one lin site of many major cities' times, and also has GMT (UTC) at the bottom.

Ah. I think you made an error there. London is on daylight savings, so it is GMT +1.
GMT 17:00 = London 18:00 = Paris 19:00 !
Also, the difference between EDT and EST causes a lot of similar confusion....

Well 22:00 GMT seems good to me, since I think MWIA needs a turn at attending And it's nice to have some ministers around too - BigFree is this good for you too? You're important right now with the barbs and all!

If you are observing daylight savings time currently, and you are in Atlantic Timezone then you will be GMT -3:00.
BTW, EST = Eastern Standard Time. EDT = Eastern Daylight Time. Most people in the Eastern timezone are on EDT, not EST currently. Same goes for lots of other timezones.

ok, let's say it so - 5pm NY time (10 pm in London). This will avoid the daylight correction.

Now - 22:00 in London (ormuzd), or 22:00 GMT (Makahlua) ? Those are actually two different things.

Actually, no. London is GMT +1.
If New York is at -4 right now, we have:
EDT New York 17:00
GMT 21:00
BST London 22:00
CEST Berlin/Paris 23:00
Does this help?
edit: I put it in my signature.

Actually I'm in East Europe (guess the country ) but I'm not sure what will happen if I said 23:00 CET. Maybe there will be started another discussion about the daylight saving times and the names of the time zones

*points at BFM's post*
What he said
#civ3dem, Undernet for the people who have trouble with 'Poly
edit: This should help too:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...,137,70,75,264
And considering the amount of confusion we've had on it, perhaps move this chat Tues or Thurs? I also think we may need more discussion on the city sites in dispute.

Can I just suggest that when a time is decided upon, the Prez may want to edit the top post and add in the time, date and roomname in bold? That would help all of us, I think.
