Is Bavaria the Texas of Germany?
The thread about German conservatives winning in Bavaria got me thinking about the old question - is Bavaria the Texas of Germany? My theory is that every country has a Texas. For instance, Finland's Texas is clearly the area of Pohjanmaa, which is big wide area that is conservative, religious, aggressive, and has a strong regional identity. Of course, there are differences - while everyone in Texas carries a gun, everyone in Pohjanmaa carries a knife.
Anyway, back to Texas and Bavaria, here's a chart of comparisons:
http://axolotl.mpib-berlin.mpg.de/us...ng/texbav.html
(Incidentally, this would probably make America the Texas of the world.)

As amazing as it sounds, it is so.
However, I refuse to believe that there's a Swede alive who doesn't go everywhere with his safety helmet on

I take it off inside as it keeps bumping into the wall when I pass trough doorways. I have serious troubles about taking a shower. On one hand there's little point in taking a shower with the helmet on, on the other hand it's quite easy to slip in the shower with dire effects. I'm glad that I live close to a hospital!

So, in that case, shouldn't we arrest this Stabbing-character?

Looks comparable to me.

It seems as if the rest of Germany has as much contempt about Bavaria as America over Texas. To be fair though, I think Bavaria has produced more dangerous conservatives than Texas.

Yeah, the feud between Bavaria and the rest of the country has tradition. Bavarians tend to label all non-Bavarians as Prussians (Sau-Preissen ), while we call them dumb peasants

Being a non-bavarian living in Bavaria, I know both worlds and I can say, that this contempt doesn't disturb Bavarians the least. They know, that it comes from the "Breiss'n" (Prussians, you got to know, that every non-bavarian regardless of his nationality is a "Breiss") and therefor can be completely ignored. It's a common mistake to believe, that Breiss'n have anything to with human beings. Not only do they talk an un-godly accent (there's only one way to pronounce German: the Bavarian accent), but some of them are even Protestants or heathens at all . This can't be tolerated.

Being a Native Texan, living in Texas, I can say that what people like Sava say (for instance) matters...none.

Americans from other states don't have much animosity or envy towards Texans.
