Texas is not a country. It is a state, part of a country. It's attempt to secede in the Civil War was defeated. It has no claims to independence.

Ah, but unlike most other states, it WAS its own country at one time.
Also, I've been thinking, there are other Texases inside other US regions (I'm only thinking this because I have no knowledge of regions in other countries whatsoever.)
New Hampshire is the Texas of New England
Oregon is the Texas of the Pacific
San Diego is the Texas of California
Lake Erie is the Texas of the Great Lakes
The 28th Floor is the Texas of the Empire State Building

A true Bavarian doesn't say "Auf Wiederschaun". He says "Pfüat di", what means something like "Go with God".

I don't want to spoil the fun, but Bavaria in fact usually enjoyed the lowest or second lowest unemployment rate of Germany for the last decade or two.
But let's see if Texas got this:
- There is a German Red Cross and a Bavarian Red Cross.
- Bavaria has its own conservative party CSU (in the rest of Germany it's CDU).- Bavaria has a superb castle which was erected for Bavarians and US and Japanese tourists only (Neuschwanstein). The rest of Europe doesn't really take notice of it (except to have fun).
- Of course, the "Deutsches Reinheitsgebot" for beer is called "Bayerisches Reinheitsgebot" in Bavaria (apparently it was a duke of Bavaria who installed it).- At the frontier, Bavaria installed sign posts "welcome to the free state of Bavaria". Later, the other states installed signs "welcome to Bundesland xxx".
- One makes fun about Swabians because they are overly miserly, of East Frisians because they are stupid, of Saxonians because of their funny dialect, but about Bavarians one really doesn't know why.
- There are standard dimensions for an ideal Bavarian: 1.70 m x 1.70 m x 1.70 m.

And when I explained that in my region they made some "boudin blanc" which is a kind of "weiss wurtz" - and that if you extend the river Main to Belgium I was living south of it - I suddenly become more human to their eyes.

Saupreiss, bögischa!
And it's Weisswurscht, and Weisswurschtäquator.
Of course to us, Bavarians are just Südpreissn (southern prussians). That's about the only external insult they care about.

I guess that's why we have no envy. Repeated devestating military victories will clear up any inferiority complexes real quick-like.

And yeah, most people don't care about Texas... well except for the fact that none of us wants to live in West Texas!

There is nothing of importance in Belgium south of the Main river. As in Germany. (sorry, had to say this )

Well it's quite common to say "Wiederschaun" to people you address with "Sie". Of course you could say a true Bavarian only uses "Du" anyway.
IIRC "Pfiat di Gott" means "Behüt dich Gott", ~"May God bless you".
"Go with God" would be "Geh mit Gott", which can mean "good riddance".

What is the Texas of Texas? I mean, it's a pretty large state. Is there a region especially reactionary conservative?

This past weekend, I had eye surgery in a clinic in eastern Iowa, which also gave me time to see some of my family and friends.
Ten years ago, I got cataract removed from my left eye (when I was in high school), and now I had cataract removed in my right eye.
Great news from all this -- I will be able to go completely without glasses, as long as I use a soft contact lens in my left eye.
So no -- I was not hiding from you.

Well, where I live (not really core Bavaria, but the occupied Frankonia), people say "Ade" anyway. I find it pretty amusing, how the Frankonians all want to be Bavarians and wave blue-white flags, while the Bavarians don't want to have anything in common with these "Holbe Preiss'n". The Weißwurschtäquator is for certain south of Nürnberg.
