[damn it, I hate when the site woun't accept my posts as the forum is over-used ]
The only game I can think of is Eco quest but that was an adventure game. Never played it so I can't really say if anything else match.

Clue3: Its an action/arcade type game, with an unusual plot
Clue4: It had three types of level to get through, but was very hard and i never got past the second level.
Clue5: It has some conection to the word 'magic'
In a roundabout way Lord Of The Rings has 'things' in it that reminds me of this game

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.
Hehe I've got clue 6:
Remove a 'u' from one of the games Cap got earlier and add a 'c' in its place.
I have to say I had almost completely forgotten this game, it is incredibly old.

Correct Dr.Spike wins with his cryptic(and correct) answer
the game was Necromancer by Synapse Software - you played the part of a hero trying to take down the Necromancer, mostly by planting lots of trees that you used to defeat the evil hoards of spiders and orcs(?),and i'll stand by what i said, the graphics were great - on the atari 8bit anyway, the animations and colours really made this a magical game to watch, and it had a great music score - one of my fav arcade type games
I've lost the other screenshots i had so i cant show you the full colour version

I knew that.
I just thought that you'd feel a little better, if I updated the score in this thread. Apparently I was wrong
You should probably go drink some beers tonight, to drown your sorrow

Remember kids, excess drinking is bad for your health and can destroy brain cells.
Now, whose round is it?
Game to follow very soon.

It was more of a general mock voice-over style quip.
Anyway, more guesses please.
