Am I the only one here who thoroughly dislikes the word "own" being used to describe someone's skill or lack thereof??

It's not as bad as when they use "rape" to mean the same thing. That makes me feel a little sick, to be honest.

It depends whos saying it. I use it in a sarcastic way, mocking on those that use it seriously.

Button mashers are people who just press buttons randomly in fighting games and dont know what they are doing.
I think cheese fiend means person who abuses block dmg in SF2. (I whore block dmg. )

"cheese fiend" =
uses little wimpy moves to wear down an opponent rather than the special moves.
I'm pretty good with E Honda, I love the Hundred hand slap.
I still have to work on the hardest level, trying to beat the game cleanly. Bison's still pretty difficult.

then ur what we call in fighting game community as....
#x move whores. (replace x with number of different moves u use in the whole game).
Whoring moves have flaws to the strategy, because they keep the gameplay overly simple. Usually move whorers try to do no more than 3-4 moves that handles every single situation. (and in fighting game it will need to cover at least: when opponent blocks high, low and quick attack to counter hit or stepping if the game is in 3D) If the game is balanced enough, there are loop holes in this kind of strategy, because game will be complictaed enough to accomodate solutions to virtually every single situation and well trained players will be aware of it.

Okay okay guys, all talk no show! From now on post ur accomplishments/records along with it. Just saying "I own in Halo" doesnt really give us much insight on just how good u are. But if you post "I own you in Halo. I won #x of tourneys in blah blah blah and won time I had a 7 kill streak with pistol whipping alone", then it gives us at least an idea of just how good yall are (although it doesnt say much about ur opponents... )

Pokes or poker is generally used to describe people who use extremly fast, safe, repetitive moves to wear down opponent in 3D fighter community. I assume its the same for street fighter. I never heard of cheese fiend so I wouldnt know what it is, but I dont think its what u describe.

I played Rat Race against ten others, Rockets only with unlimited grenades, fifty kills. I won by a margin of thirty kills and only died fifteen times.
I tried to do a team tournament with the guys I play with but they didn't want to drive to Atlanta. Next single player tourney is mine.

I won in a mini-tourney in Halo that was held by the Xbox bus thing on my uni campus last year, but I don't care enough to do any other tourney type things. I did that one cause I had downtime between class and it was right there.

I own at Dance Dance Revolution. I can beat any song on heavy difficulty (with the exception of a couple near-impossible ones like Max 300).

I was, at one point, quite good at the "Sweden" track of Screamer Rally. That was at least six years ago.

I 0wn in Soldier of Fortune 1 (fps)
there are no world rankings or anything so I can't really prove it
I also owned tetris on gameboy getting 500000 points without too much effort
I remember humiliating all my friends at age of kings, until I went on the zone and got beaten by some dude with lame tactics (in deathmatch, building a large amount of villagers and building farms and castles immediately, and then simply spam me with elephants and trebuchets.... makes the game boring!)
I was more for the epic hardcore large scaled battles with huge armies, flanking tactics and laying waste to trees so I could hit the enemy base from behind

Zero.... Halo 1 doesn't have Xbox live. You can still play online with GameSpy and a little tweaking though.

Well for WC3 it was easy, since every player has experience points, and is then ranked on a ladder if they break the top 1000. I was 'ranked' somewhere between 1000 and 1250 I estimate.
For Quake it was harder. There were several leagues though, in which the vast majority of serious players played to compete, and I played for a division 3 side. Division 5 players were good, much better than all but the best FFA players. Division 1 were the worldclass brigade...........people like Blokey that have represented Britain in the world tourneys, and other top Euros.
