New Scenario: Waterloo
I'm thinking of doing an scenario about Waterloo, I haven't seen a lot of scenarios about battle just one about Gettysburg but there was just five different types of units and it was really simple (does anybody know any other scenario battle??) but it was fun; so I'm thinking on doing one about the Napoleon battle

I haven't done anything yet so I'm asking you for help,
-suggestions,
-possible events,
-possible maps,
-icons,
-unit,
-help for playtesting,
-web pages for information

basically whatever you can help me with

also, do you like the idea of an scenario about a battle,

I think I'm going to make it without cities,
I think i'm going to have the map ready in around two weeks

please, I think I'm going to need help

I am so glad to see that you have chosen to do just a battle scenario. It will be a nice change of pace from the usually VERY long Civ II scenarios. This would especially be great to play in Mplayer too

It would be my pleasure to help you out. I would like to help out in research (forces present during the battle, a little history leading up to the battle, possibly ideas on unit placement, playtesting - I have MGE, etc).

A few preliminary suggestions:

1) Is it possible to give some units ranged attack (such as artillery)?

2) Insert special event files, such as the Prussian reinforcements, the fact that it rained during the early part of the battle, thus causing Napoleon to wait before he launched his attack, etc

3) Select only the finest units available on the web (colourful uniforms, different armies, flags, different types of cannon, villages, etc) - make it LOOK great, as well as play great, etc.

4) Maybe make this the first in a series of "The Great Battles in History" scenarios. There are many battles in history that would be fun to game (Cannae, Jutland, Midway, Alesia, Kursk, etc).

Please feel free to email me at westbeach@altavista.com.

I'm looking forward to this Shaka

Right on!

I've already done some preliminary research - found some great maps, paintings and historical articles on the battle

I'll dig around and see what I can find on units too...

Aw man I cannot wait for this one to come out! Ranged attacks are possible, you just make the artillery unit an aircraft carrier than can carry the 'roundshot' 'caseshot' 'cannister' etc units which are air unit missile types. It works okay but the AI has troubles with it.

I'm not saying I'm number one. Oh, I'm sorry, I lied. I'm number One, Two, Three, Four and Five!

I found some nice battle maps of Waterloo, but I couldn't send them off to you (kept getting server problems). So here are the links here. There is also a wealth of information about the battle, etc.
www.historyserver.org/napoleon.series/

When you're at this site, scroll down and click on "Military". Here you'll find headings such as "Battle Listings", "Battles and Campaigns", "Map Archives", and "Organization, Strategy & Tactics".

Click on "Map Archives" (once at this screen, you'll see a small index on the left. Click on Belgium 1815 - this will take you to two beautiful, full colour battle maps of Waterloo showing terrain, roads, and troop deployments for all armies). One map shows the situation at 11:30 in the morning, while the second map shows the situation at 7:30pm. They should be helpful to you in making your map, especially if you are able to print them out on a colour printer.

Talk to you soon.

I got my email working again. I've sent you a bunch of cool military units I found, including: an assortment of infantry, cavalry, and a number of different types of cannon for all armies involved (which primarily would include British, French and Prussian forces). Also included are figures for the French "Imperial Guard" as well as for Napoleon and Wellington. What we now need are units to represent the "British square" that was formed to fend off French cavalry attacks.

I also sent you a very nice battle map of Waterloo, which shows all the troop deployments etc.

I have more to send to you - but I'll have to wait as your email box is now full!

Phoenix: thanks for your help on the artillery

Shaka: I agree with your focus. Perhaps do the battle from the British side first (and if it works well), then perhaps do it from the French side too . We would have all the documentation and units and the map (it would just be a matter of adjusting the play balance and units for the French side) - thus two scenarios in one!

It would also be a great idea to perhaps modify strength, aggression, etc to make it a tough and interesting scenario. There would be nothing quite so interesting as to see massive attacks by heavy French cavalry against the British "Squares"

We can definitely fine-tune as we go...

I just send you an email with the web page adress that you just told me to check in the forum
I think that we both went in yahoo and put Napoleon,
I have three scenarios in my email account so wait a little until I finish it
I didn't know what did ranged attack meant but I thought about doing the artillery like you said for the first turns,
I think that what we should do is make difference between the different "round" of the battle and modified the rules a lot of times to make the units stronger weaker, etc..
if we want to make it challenging we should do it playable for just one side, or even make two scenarios!!!!!!!
for what I know I think that it would be more interesting to be the Allies,
but we'll see later about that,
i'll take a look at the units and to the map now

Shaka:

I'm currently writing up the following items:

1) The names of the major officers for both the French and British forces.

2) A list of events that we can choose from to include in the game.

I hope everything is going well with your map
