English version finished - need tester
Cross & Crescent, the English version of Kreuz & Halbmond is now finished, but before I release it, it would be nice to have one or two testers for this version (needs Fantastic Worlds).
Is there someone who could:
1.)testplay the English version
2.)look out for spelling errors
3.)and for any other mistakes
Note that this is no real betatest, but however, any comments or suggestions are, of course, welcome.
So, please give me a valid email adress, and Iīll mail the English version and a few hints to you...

...and the German version is available for review on the SLeague site. We'll even accept a review in German.

Cockney has reported that he wasnīt able to start the English version, he received this error message from civ2:
Error 2 "-3" in module "2" data: 15 4
File open Failed: modules.DB
Most recent DOS error: 2
Iīm not sure about the reason for this. I think itīs the file LABELS.TXT. The file I included with the English version has the stringheap value of 11000, but the German version of this file has 20000. And, later I discovered that most of the English scenarios I have use a LABELS.TXT with a stringheap of 16368...
Has anyone an idea about it? Or is another problem causing the error message above?
I tested the English version on my computer, and it works well, so what is wrong...?
Thanks for any help!

I was just wondering on what version this scenario works on: just CivII, CivII with Fantastic Worlds, or MGE?
Whether the two of you have different versions of the game.
Also, if you'd like to send me the game I'll test it with MGE. Email me at westbeach@altavista.com

Thanks benedetti, but I think the events are ok. Also I received an email from another tester and he says that the scenario runs good...first good news today
Leonidas, I sended the scenario to you.
I hope it runs with MGE (Iīve only FW).

BeBro,
Several problems may be causing that message error. The label.txt string you mention may be one. But another likely reason for that to happen is that you have exceeded the space limit for events.txt. Eliminate a couple of @if's in that file and load again (do not rely on the FW event counter, it's usually wrong).

BreBos:
Thanks for the scenario - I have already sent you an email describing the problem, but this scenario will not work with MGE, even when I remove the label.txt and game.txt files. Sorry.
I hope perhaps someone may have a solution to this problem.

Ok, thanks for your efforts, Leonidas.
Are there some other testers (despite the problems )? Remember, itīs Fantastic Worlds.
Don, another Tester, says, it runs fine. I say it runs fine, but Cockney and Leonidas werenīt able to run the scenario (I believe itīs your MGE, Leonidas).
I think, I canīt release this English version until itīs clear that it is running correctly...any help would be great.

Try setting Future Tech to nil, nil or something. BTW, if the game runs fine after you delete/rename labels.txt, your version is incompatible.

Thanks St.Leo! Progress report:
Iīve found one more tester and, surprisingly, he reported that the scenario runs without problems on his machine...
Perhaps I can release this version later this week, including a corrected Labels.TXT.

Don, you have MGE? I thought FW...However, nice to hear that it works fine
I have to admit that I have no idea why it runs with your MGE, while Leonidas werenīt able to start the scenario...
And Shaka Naldur, thanks, itīs coming...

Yes! And it will include me, I think!
My first post after at least one week! Well, BeBro, when you set the string heap in labels.txt on 30.000, it should work fine, because I don't think it can't be too large. Or is it able to? Hmmm. Forget it...
Another thing: in the first post in this thread you talked about some hints. What did you mean here?
Could you give me the same hints? Or were they included in our e-mail-dialogues. (könnte ja sein, daß es sich bei diesen hints um sachen wie grenzsicherung handelt...)
Anyway, I hope that the main speling mistakes, if there should be any , aren't discovered in events.txt or rules.txt since I was the one who translated them. Well, at least 70% of them...
Are there actually any spelling or even grammar mistakes discovered? I don't hope so...

Hey Andz, you are (of course) in the credits !
The hints are mainly things that weīve already discussed via email. Have you specific questions (about the gameplay or other points)?
However, Don hasnīt reported any mistakes until now, so itīs clear that your translations are very good! I hope that benedetti and Shaka Naldur agree with that...

BeBro,
I am happy to report, sire, that your scenario works okay under both FW and MGE. Furthermore, I believe this is a beautiful scenario. I happen to be something like an "scenario advisor" for the Bestonet section of the Spanish Civ Site. I'd like to propose your scenario for inclusion in that section if that's fine with you.
Uh, almost forgot, the English reads fine to me. The city names aren't in English though (I know, I know)

Thanks, benedetti, that sounds great to me! Andz will also like what you say about the translation.
And Iīd be very happy if the scenario would be in the Bestonet section.
So, I think a can finally release this version in the next days...

Sorry about my lack of testing reports be-bro, but I am in the middle of my exams at the mo,
but here are a few things I have noticed:
1. Oxford is NOT a costal city, try renaming it to gloucester.
2. the tranlation is good just one grammer error, in the first event (about 1000-1050)
it should be attck instead of attacking.
3. Playing as the british is quite hard but enjoyable, playing as the Germans (Or holy Roman Empire) is a cool but take a long time to build up properly, Playing as the French is surprisingly easy. Just my experiances of play.
4. A suggestion: a few more events wouldn't go amiss although I know the events.txt is almost full.
and finaly thanks beBro for leting me test this fine scenario

2. If he's trying to fix grammar, maybe he should check spelling too

You're little thing in #2 wouldn't happen to be supposed to be "attack" and how "attck" right?

WarVoid, Iīll send you the scenario.
Cockney, thanks for the advice, I renamed Oxford
Iīm currently making the last little changes and I think Iīll create a new topic later on this day with a link to the release version.
Any new errors will be corrected in the next big update (if there is one ).
So, thanks to all who helped me.
