I'm amazed though 'bout the difference between a 12.7G and the top processors, here I am thinking I was still almost top of the line with my 9 month old 2000XP AMD.

Nice to see a benchmark about something else then FPS

Yes, but the L3 adds 5-15% more to make do with.

What do you do with that? Play civ3 five seconds faster?
3.2 GHz is just a number with three letters after it. Do not be fooled.

It'll be interesting to see which chips come on sale first here.
Athlon 64FX or P4EE...whoever wins the contest gets my money.

<----------- Just bought an Athlon 64 3200+ for $644CDN
Will buy the 256MB Radeon 9800 Pro this weekend, as well as the new mobo, case, RAM, and sound card.
Not to mention the special Zalman noiseless video card cooler and CPU coolers.
September 30th is the HL2 demo.
Perfect timing.

unfortunately half-life 2 has been delayed a german gaming magazin reports. However the game will be available before the end of the year
A release close to Sep 30 and then this
Asher you spend a fortune for WHAT?????
256MB Radeon is exactly as fast as 128MB Radeon, except you play in 1600x1200 with AA which I doubt because you will getting unplayable 20 frames in HL2 then anyway.
You can get the R9800Pro 128 at around 379 Euros here.
The same Radeon from the same company with 256 costs 574 Euros. Thats a whooping 195 Euros difference for almost NO perfomance increase. (okay thats prices here though I doubt there is much difference).
If you dont do any grahpics programming I'd say that money is thrown out.
On the plus side the Athlon64 seems to be quite a good CPU. AMD is on the track again. The P4EE is a tough competitor but I guess AMD will win the price war and thus win customers. The Athlon64 FX on the other hand is much to expensive, requires registered DIMMs (DDR400 reg not available at the moment) and is based on socket 940 which I heard will be replaced with Athlon64 FX with 939 pins by the end of 2004.
At least the Athlon64 3200+ seems to live up to the promise that the name implies.

Tracked it down to www.computerrack.ca, $699CDN.
It's on MacLeod trail in Calgary.

You don't need to explain to me that the 256MB doesn't increase frame rate, but vertex data and textures are rapidly ballooning in size in games.
I'm willing to pay for the extra RAM full-well knowing that it won't boost my framerates in most of today's games unless I turn on 4x FSAA at 1600x1200.

I don't see a 256M version available.
The reason I ask is that the twots at ATI have been selling that card from their web site for some time, but have not deigned to make it available in the channel (ie for the normal store to sell it to you).
With idiots like that at the controls, guess how much longer the channel lasts? Or, should i say, how much longer does ATI last when the channel tells them to go f! themselves.
It will be an interesting couple of years coming up.

The FX is available right now, the P4EE can hardly be considered a launch since it won't be available at all for a couple of months. The amazing thing is that Intel persuaded the hardware review sites to include the processor when doing their AMD 64 reviews.

It's not an ATI card, Sapphire makes it. Check under Sapphire.
What I was really hoping for is the Radeon 9800 MAXX (dual 9800s on one board) prototype Sapphire made, but it doesn't look like that'll be retail anytime soon.

About bloody time that someone released a 64bit chip for the desktop! Anyone know when windows will be out for it?
I'm going to wait for a while until I get one, because what with the porting, and presumably a transfer from 32 to 64 bit platforms, the benefits wont really hit home until say a year or two from now. Just think, this time in 7 years, we'll all be hailing the Pentium CXXVIII

Wouldnt that also require special drivers from Sapphire?
