I saw a funny commercial before the previews when I went to see "Underworld" in the theatres... this dope is talking about how piracy hurts the little guys... the set painter and other Hollywood peons... I could only laugh! It's not my fault the producers and stars aren't sharing the dough. And most of the movies I've downloaded, I wouldn't have bought anyways. Sorry... RIAA = dopes

I only bought the three Austin Powers movies on DVD after I downloaded them. Bah. The idea behind movies and TV shows has been killed by the internet anyways. Freedom to interact forever. Death to the MPAA.

Kazaa sueing anyone over software piracy is just, well,
Does Kazaa really think that the courts are going to take them seriously?!?

Well if they have a case, that's very good. It's about time someone stood up to the RIAA.

There's nothing inherently illegal about P2P software.
Software bootlegging has been in existence as long as microcomputers. Way back in the '70s, Billg and company wrote an open letter to the hobbyist community, accusing them for copying Microsoft's BASIC.
P2P software just makes these activities easier.

Kazaa has a network that states in multiple places you can ONLY connect to if you use their official software, the RIAA has been using kazaa lite to connect to the network-first off this is software piracy, SECOND OFF this is hacking.

Someone at the RIAA is actually aware of internet realities, I'm surprised. Is it the RIAA's fault that they don't want spyware on their computers?

If they want to fight us, they should have to deal with all the spyware and popups they can get--"RIAA Disbands; KaZaA Advertising Cited As Reason"

Now that's an interesting idea. But ultimately ineffective all the same. The most regular joe schmoe in their anti piracy department can walk down the street to star bucks with his laptop computer, use their VPN and find users to pester on StarBuck's IP addy.

Still, it increases the cost to RIAA all the same for an equal effect.

Starbucks allow outside people to plug into their VPN?
Now that sounds really stupid.

Aren't coffee shops, etc setting up wireless networks for laptop users? What happened to their Centrino chip?
Last spring when Intel and Microsoft were here at the University for the aniversry of Mosaic they both talked loftily of how everyone was going wireless.
Maybe it hasn't happened yet or at all.

Yeah, there are WiFi hotspots all over the place, but it's very easy to configure them so that p2p software wont work.

you know downloading underworld hurts the MPAA, not the RIAA?
in any case, the MPAA is almost as bad as the RIAA, but at least they price dvds somewhat reasonably (a few bucks more than cds.)

DVDs are a better buy, you get 2 hrs vs. 1 hr worth of entertainment. Also, DVDs have picture in addition to sound. Finally, it's easy to understand where the money goes in it- movies aren't cheap to make.
Music on the other hand, as large as the support staff might be, is not anywhere near the scale of movies.

Which is why I use it.
You can also enable IP blocking of address you specify.

He means WAP. They have public WAPs in most Starbucks now, at least in the US.
