Recommend music from your country.
No, not 'ethnic' or 'folk' music. 'Regular' music. But only from countries that aren't USA and UK. Or maybe little known bands from the UK, and USA.
Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock, Metal, Techno, just please, let it be GOOD music.

Texas, Our Texas
Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blessed.
(chorus)
Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)
Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.
Chorus
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

I warmly recommend the äãåøáðéí . Believe it or not, they make disco music.

can't really tell these apart, but they're not bad (looking, anyway): SES/FinKL/BabyVox/BoA
then there's a ballad singer, shin seung hoon.
and a pop star, who's kinda lost everything since he switched citizenship to avoid the military: yoo seung joon.
some like clon, cool, koyotae...

Phish. They aren't exactly unheard of (they've quite a following), but they aren't played on the radio much. They aren't "trendy" or "mainstream" enough. Which says good things about them, as far as I'm concerned.
If you've heard of the Grateful Dead, well, Phish is somewhat similar. I never really liked the Dead much, but I do like Phish, so clearly there is a seperation there. Phish has a bit more rock 'n roll to them (though not their newer stuff, which I don't like).

From Turkey: Great singer named Ozlem Tekin. Her most recent album, Tek Basima, is teriffic; not sure who she best compares to in the US/UK, but Garbage isn't that far off.

Most music here is very lyrics dependant so I guess I can't recommend you the good stuff, you wouldn't understand it.
So here is stuff with few words
Colonia - dance
Bambi Molesters - surf music
Vjestice - few words, folk rythmes

I'm not really very familiar with all of them, but I like what I do know. I'll try and label it, but I'm not very good at that... I'll also mark those that don't sing in English.
Belgium
2 Many DJ's (DJ's obviously, they do remixes and compilations)
Das Pop (alternative pop?)
dEUS (alternative experimental rock)
Gorki (no idea, singer-songwriter-ish rock? sung in Dutch)
Raymond van het Groenewoud (singer-songwriter, pop, soul... in Dutch)
't Hof van Commerce (hip-hop in West-Flemish dialect)
K's Choice (rock)
Ozark Henry (rock)
Soulwax (rock, the same guys as 2 Many DJ's, but entirely different music)
Vive La Fête (dance)
Zap Mama (african world music/pop)
Zita Swoon(disco-rock, especially great live)
Holland
The Gathering (metal)
De Heideroosjes (punk, both in Dutch and English)
Osdorp Posse (Dutch hip-hop)
Wyatt (rock, don't know if they actually did anything more than that one single I know)
And then some more foreign ones, not from my country, but very much worth mentioning...
Max Normal (hip-hop, from South Africa, only heard them live so far, but they're awesome)
Madrugada (rock, from Norway)
Myslovitz (rock, from Poland... found this thanks to Heresson)
And a good, but somewhat obscure (?) American rock/metal band:
... And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead
Edit: added Myslovitz

Kingston Wall is a now-defunct Finnish prog-rock band, although they write their lyrics in English. My favourite album from them is "II" and two of my favourite songs from that album are "Could It Be So?" and "Two Of A Kind". The singer, Petri Walli, is nothing special but the drummer Sami Kuoppamäki is very skilled. I'd say the band is worth checking out if you like prog.

i'm currently heavy into this song, can't say it's "good" in the mainstream sense:
Alright...
This right here is going out to all the outcasts,
outsiders and outlaws out there tonight,
is going out to everybody whose ever been
locked up held down or kicked around.
it's going out to all the white trash out there,
all the wasted youth,
everybody thats felt like they never had a chance,
the world we live in is going straight to hell.
Fellas, I know there's no where to turn...were all livin in exile.
I'M IN EXILE!
I'VE BEEN LIVING IN EXILE!
I'M IN EXILE!
I'VE BEEN LIVING IN EXILE!
I've been hanging on the corner,
starin' at the night sky,
and watchin' the CARS DRIVE BY!
Their faces stare, but they don't see me
as I think about the past and I wonder I WONDER WHY!
A side of life they'll never see
has passed before my jaded eyes MY EYES!
I'm on the outside lookin' in,
I hold THE BURNIN' TEARS INSIDE MY HEART!
I BEEN RUNNIN', I BEEN RUNNIN' WITH THE HUNTED,
I BEEN RUNNIN' FOR MY WHOLE LIFE!
I'M IN EXILE!
AND I GOT NOTHIN' BUT A HOPE INSIDE,
IN MY HEART WHERE HOPE HAS DIED!
I BEEN LIVIN' IN EXILE!
TEARS AND PAIN LIKE A STINGING RAIN,
HAVE PASSED BEFORE MY EYES!
I'M IN EXILE!
I BEEN RUNNIN', I BEEN RUNNIN' WITH THE HUNTED,
I BEEN RUNNIN' FOR MY WHOLE LIFE.
I'VE BEEN LIVING IN EXILE!
FORSAKEN!
FORGOTTON!
If you haven't been there,
then you'll never understand!
I've stolen, I've lied,
I've traded my pride
'CUZ I NEVER HAD A HELPING HAND!
THEY'LL STEAL YOUR INNOCENCE AND TAKE AWAY YOUR SOUL!
I've stolen, I've lied,
there were time when there wasn't any place to go.
SO LET'S GO!
How many tears have our mothers cried? EXILE!
How many of my kind have died? EXILE!
So I stand here to spit in your eyes,
and tell you your society is nothing but lies.
They lock us up and they hold us down,
another wasted youth, another DEAD END TOWN.
I been waiting so long,
I been waiting so long,
I BEEN WAITING
NOW MY HOPE IS GONE!
THERE'S GOTTA BE SOMETHING MORE THAN THIS!
THERE'S GOTTA BE SOMETHING THAT I MISSED!
HOW MANY TEARS HAVE THEY TORN FROM MY EYES?
HOW MANY TIMES WILL WE BE DENIED?
THEY LOCK US UP AND THEY HOLD US DOWN,
JUST ANOTHER WASTED YOUTH, ANOTHER DEAD END TOWN.
I BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG.
I BEEN WAITING NOW MY HOPE IS...
GONE.

Arrian; if you like Phish try King Crimson and Hot Tuna
Similar yet different... AS much as GD is from Phish... Though Phish's drummer (i think) just got busted for having a 9 year old girlfriend
