Best music to cure the blues?
If you are sad or depressed, what type of music or specific song always makes you feel better?

Gone!
Cure
oh you know how it is
wake up feeling blue
and everything that could be wrong is
including you
black clouds and rain and rain in your head
and all you want to do is stay in bed
buf if you do that you'll be missing the world
because it doesn't stop turning whatever you heard
if you do that you'll be missing the world
you have to get up get out and get gone !
yeah you know how it is
wake up feeling green
sick as a dog and six times as mean
you don't want to sing you don't want to play
you don't want to swing you don't want to sway
all you want to do is nothing
on a day like today
but if you do that you 'll be missing the world
because it doesn't stop turning whatever you heard
if you do that you'll be missing the world
you have to get up get out and get gone !
yeah get up get out and get some fun
you have to get up get out and get gone !
yeah get up get out and get gone !
get up get out and get gone !
you have to get up get out and get living
yeah this is really it...
so you know how it is
wake up feeling grey
nothing much to think and nothing much to say
don't want to talk don't want to try
don't want to think don't want to know
who what where when or why...
oh but you do that and you're missing the world
yeah it's happening right now whatever you heard
you do that and you're missing the world
you have to get up get out and get gone !
yeah get up get out and have some fun
you have to get up get out and get gone !
yeah get up get out and get it on
get up get out and get gone !
you have to get up get out and get living
yeah this is really it!

Wagner, particularily "Die Gotterdamnerung" and the theme of the magic fire ring.
You don't want to mess with me when I'm blue.

A lesson learned while leaning on the stage in Memphis where W.C. Handy started it all...What a night that turned out to be!

Ella Fitzgerald singing absolutely anything at all.
The Frank Sinatra album, "Songs for Swingin' Lovers"
The Dean Martin Song, "Mambo Italiano"
I own tons of contemporary rock/pop/alternative stuff, but it just doesn't cheer me up the way the old masters do.

Death By Stereo

basically the louder, faster and the angrier the better, on the rare occasions that I want something softer Morphine usually works pretty well...

And 'Feeling Good' (the Nina Simone version is best imo). The title says it all

My fav song to cure the blues is Club Nouveau's remix version of "Lean on me". It is really cool.
lyrics:
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me
So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Lean on me…

Depends on the type of blues. Usually I would rather wallow in self pity when feeling depressed, so it would be Tom McRae, Radiohead True Love Waits, Verve The Drugs Don't Work, Coldplay, Evanescence My Immortal or Angel by Sarah McLachlan if it's that kind of depression.
If I want to be happy it'll either be something easy to listen to, either pop or rock, or more likely some jazz. Or REM Why Not Smile. I have playlists for my moods, so I just it on and relax
If I feel depressed, whether I want to wallow or pick myself up, the best thing for me is just to go to my sax and play whatever's in my head. That way I find out what mood I'm in in the first place
