I would like to announce to the world the opening of the Bank of Britain. After the introduction of capitalism to these shores by the gifted economist Adam Smith the bank has opened with the intention of being the first international lending bank the world has ever seen. All world civilizations are encouraged to loan money from the Bank of Britain. The introductory interest rate is 10%.

The Bank has had a great effect on the British economy, spurring commerce, trade and the economy throughout the empire. International lending is just the next component of this great wonder of capitalism.

Secondly, as recommended by Economic Minister Smith, we will make our Panama colony available to all people of the world. The tolls are as follows. 20 gold per ship, 5 gold per military unit, 10 gold per settler, and 20 gold per caravan. In light of the considerable expense and time required in rounding the tip of South America, this direct passage through the two continents is well worth the price.

The Azadine Traders looked at each other with glee. They had been trading in tech credits for eons, so no one knew how advanced they really were. And now, this opportunity!

The Azadine were no longer run by witch doctors but a democratic forum of traders. I.e. those that had the most gold were in the forum...

The forum debated the potential of the Bank of Britain and decided to propose investing in this bank. This is the formula they arrived at:
Gold bundles of 110g would be packaged and invested. The Bank of Britain would take 10g up front for administrative costs and maintain the balance (100g) for lending to other civilisations @ 10% simple interest per turn. The English could rake off another commission to be agreed when the loan was re-paid to the Azadine Traders. Transparent accounting would be demanded and the loans balance sheets must be posted for world consumption by the Bank.

It is a remarkable feat of engineering. Britain has assembled the best ship builders in the empire and sent them to Panama. Ships docking on the Atlantic coast will be disassembled, trekked across the Panama ithimus and reassembled in the Pacific ocean. It is truly an amazing task, and for the speed at which this is accomplished, it is remarkable indeed.

As has been suggested the Azadine Traders had been wheeling and dealing in Tech Trades. The true technological power of the Azadine was not fully realised and at present two nations OWED the Azadine two techs each. The ever friendly and decent Indians owed two techs and had alays repaid their debt when required - the deal being a tech of choice must be gifted to the Azadine when discovered.

Another nation, a long time ally of the Azadine, the Tartars, had suddenly refused to repay their debts. Two techs were still outstanding. In tones not becoming an ally, in fact in tones of outright mistrust, the Tartars refused to repay their debt, saying they believed the Azadine would hand these techs to the enemies of the Tartars - which included the other ally of the Azadine, The English.

The English had always been fair in their dealings with the Azadine, and indeed the Azande it is believed.

And even when the English asked if the Azadine would join forces with them and the Serbs to restrict Tartar colonisation of America, the Azadine declined - not wishing to play one ally off against the other. Neutrality in this conflict was agreed on at the Azadine Forum.

So it was with disgust that the Azadine did view this Tartar INSULT.

Two planetary turns will be granted for the Tartars to retract their insult and make a posted statement of apology, swearing that they would when demanded gift any two techs of Azadine choosing.

Otherwise, final negotiations with the English will transpire and war will be declared on the Tartars.

The Azandine perhaps misunderstand the way the Tartars act and the reasons for their actions. China has always dealt with the Azandine traders on fair terms, always exchanging what knowledge and goods they only had already obtained. Perhaps we can use this good standing to help you understand the situation of the Tartars.

For many of centuries the Tartars and the Chinese have been allies, and primarily for one reason, the presense of a common hostility from Serbia toward both Tartar and eventually Chinese expansion in any front, weither it was technological, domesticly, or territorially. The constant threat of war and harsh rhetoic led to a defensive alliance between China and Tartardom.

Because of this alliance the tartars were often favored with technology before other nations from the Chinese Republic. These were to be held as military secrets. Harsh punishments were to be arranged with unauthorized trading of these technologies was commited, or even if the loss of a city were to cause the leak of such knowledge. All tartar colonists, knew that if they did not fight to the last man, then the Chinese Yazuka would certainly finish the job.

While the tartarese may very well be in debt to the Azandine, its unreasonable to expect another nation's goods as payment. You have always dealt with us fairly, so why now do you seek to go under the table against us? It is as much the fault of the one who makes the loan as the one who takes it, when it is obvious from the start that it is a debt that is impossible for them to pay alone.

Of course, China keeps nothing off the table when dealing with rational nations like those of the Azandine. If Chinese technology interests the Azandine, perhaps their debt could be transfered to the more forgiving Chinese nation, who understands the value of educating our neighbors has other long term rewards.

A remarkable invention in China saw the downfall of the Uele, along with all their ludicrous expansionist plans.

Various scientific adavances with gunpowder and cannon fire mysteriously caused the Uele's Great Straw to collapse. The Azande and Azadine were only minimally affected by this event having developed other protections but the Uele faded. The Azande from the SW moved in and now control Azande, Uele (to be re-named), muin and Mongu.

Though our nation may be crushed by our mighty neighbours to the south, we will not , can not, allow our friends to be mistreated in such a way.

We maybe beaten , we may be raped and crushed, but we shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in the New Worlds and on the seas and oceans. We shall defend our homeland whatever the cost may be; we shall fight in the deserts , the jungles , on hills and in vales, in streets and in the temple, right to our bedroom door. The Azadine Forum was in raptures!

This brilliant Chinese diplomacy was highly respected and gave cause for much debate.

After much tooing and frowing the Forum decided to accept the Chinese offer. After all the Azadine were traders (of anything) and were rapidly becoming known as the Azadews.... (is it OK to say that?)

For clarity, the agreement with the Chinese, replacing the agreement with the Tartars:

* At any point in time two techs of choice are to be gifted to the Azadine by the Chinese nulling the Tartar/Azadine agreement - such techs not to be on-traded... a difficulty for the Azadine Traders but it was agreed all the same.
* No war would be declared on the Tartars but the alliance would be cancelled.
* The Azadine would maintain a close alliance with the English and continued friendly trading relations with Serbia and Egypt.
* Maximum diplomatic efforts would be exerted on Serbia to allow Chinese settlement in the Americas.
* Azadine request a map of the Americas be posted by the Chinese and Serbia if such agreement is possible.
* Tartar asked to restrict colonisation of the Americas to all islands in the Carribean in return for peace
* Suggest Tartars consider ceding their Middle East city to the Egyptians

He was greeted by mass cheering ....

The Azadine Forum was starting to get a bit over-confident with its dilpomatic sucesses. But, it was all looking good, the only immediate threat being that of the Azande and possibly the Egyptians...

The Forum requests the Bank of Britain inform them of any impending trade with gold. A 50g enticemewnt would be offerred for the Bank to drum up business. If no significant business was underway within 20 turns the Bank would be deemed a failure...

The Egyptian Emporer did heartily rejoice at the demise of the Uele who had from ages past promoted their goals of total african domination. Now all that stood in the way of african unity was those capitalistic Traders.

To compliment this observatory, a second wonder has been built - a place of higher learning to train India's scientists - The University of Enki (also known to our Egyptian friends as Thoth).

Rumors of wars and threats of violence between nations to the distant northwest have caused turmoil among our people living in Kashmir and the Indus River valley. When Milutin died, his brother’s son, Stefan Dragoslav was expected to become King of Serbia. But Milutin’s son, Stefan Uros, helped by his grandmother Ann, Princess of England managed to escape from his cell in the Tower of London and came to Novi Sad a month after Milutin’s death. He immediately announced he hadn’t been blinded completely and assembled a group of veteran knights toughened in The MAN’s campaigns in the mid east. The civil war that broke out was short but fierce. In the decisive engagement near Belgrade, Bogdan II Jugovic defected from Stefan Dragoslav’s side and Stefan Uros emerged victorious. Stefan Dragoslav was captured and later executed, and Milutin’s son was crowned as Stefan Uros III.
To commemorate his victory against Stefan Dragoslav, Stefan Uros III constructed the new Royal Palace in Belgrade. Named Palace Fantast for its surreal appearance and never before seen splendour, this magnificent castle soon attracted many travellers and emissaries from all over the world. It was in this palace that the first exchange of knowledge between the Samaritan Serbs and the insidious Indians took place.
The right honourable Lalit Mansingh, an extraordinary and plenipotentiary envoy of Consul Berzerker the Explorer arranged this shameful exchange. Serbs gave two highly valued technologies, feudalism and Christianity, which were essential to mould the backward Indian society into a prosperous nation they are now. In exchange for such display of generosity, Serbs received only worthless Astronomy and scorn of Consul Berzerker for many years to come. But beware those who would try to trick Serbia pushing her in such unfair deals! God is our witness, Serbs have been tricked! And while they can forgive, they can never forget!

Years of happiness and peaceful prosperity Serbia experienced during the reign of Stefan Uros III were destined to come to an end. Just as it happened so many times in the history of Serbia, once again son stood up against his father. While Stefan Uros III was visiting northern Serbia and bestowing the title of Grand Duke of Herzeg Novi on his closest ally Mirko Nestorovic, his son Stefan Uros, Prince of Zeta and heir to the throne, seized the opportunity and marched in Belgrade proclaiming himself King of Serbia. The father and the son met on a battlefield near Prizren. It was the stage of the bloodiest battle in the history of Serbia. The King’s army seemed victorious at first, but in the heat of the battle Bogdan II Jugovic switched sides again, thus turning the tide in this battle and sealing the faith of the King. His army surrendered, but was, nevertheless, slaughtered to the last man and the King himself was brought in front of his son. Stefan Uros III abdicated in favour of his son, who became known as Stefan Uros IV Dusan, or simply Stefan Dusan. But the new king proved to be ruthless. He didn’t want to leave loose ends. So only a month after his coronation, Stefan Dusan ordered the execution of his father. And Stefan Uros III, deposed King of Serbia, was strangled in his cell in the dungeon of Prizren. He will be remembered in the history for his last words: “I was blinded by my father and strangled by my son”.
But Dusan did not stop at this. He wanted to commemorate his bloody victory over his father with a structure that would fill with fear the hearts of his opponents and enemies. On the field where the battle took place, he constructed a monument of terror, the Skull Tower. This tower built entirely and exclusively of the skulls of his father’s supporters, who surrendered during the battle of Prizren, later became the gathering point for all military campaigns. The enemies of Serbia realised what they could expect from Serbia should they go to war with her. The very knowledge that Serbs rarely leave survivors and accept prisoners strikes fear in the hearts of her enemies and panic in their minds. Very often have the enemies of Serbia handed over the victory to her abandoning their positions and leaving their weapons behind, simply out of fear of what would happen to them if they were captured. On the other hand, this doctrine encourages Serb soldiers and strengthens their belief that they are invincible, so they often engage forces by far superior in numbers and equipment. Out of these conflicts against impossible odds, Serb brave warriors come victorious nearly all the times.

But because he had killed his father, slain the prisoners of war and built the Tower of Horror, Stefan Uros IV Dusan became first known as Stefan Dusan the Terrible.

At the scene of such a blood bath as had happened in times long gone, stood a man in a long coat, covering him so asto not be rocognizable. He gazed upon the tower of skulls and mulled over what ag reat fighting spirit this people had. He smiled inwardly at how his own growing throng had already infiltrated the local barracks and were gaining much needed experience from these hardened fighters. He had been here in this province of Serbia for two years now and already his hordes had changed from just followers to expert warriors. Soon upon completion of their training he would continue his march across Asia, he was almost at his destination. Yes soon and very soon his time would come.

Rasputin slipped queitly back into the crowd around the tower of horror and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

The crowded city streets of the wonderous city of Novi Sad were awash wih citizens celbrating the national end of year holiday. They were totally oblivious to the meeting that had just occured between the leader of the Local Underground Razlamics and the great preacher himslef Rasputin. Rasputin had travelled here having already seen most of serbia on his travels and was no cementing the last of his allies in the coming civil upheaval that would happen. Plans were made and agreed upon and palces on the High Council were earmarked for all the leaders Rasputin had met. With so many folllowers and the power bestowed upon him from within the Serbian Underground, he could not fail.

Having left the meeting with the almost the last of his deals done, he slipped into the crowd an joined them in their celbration. Dressed as one of them , but celbrating sometihng compeltely different within himself.
