She got a GameCube
The wife went and bought a GameCube now that they're only $100.
It's a tiny little console with tiny little disks. She unhooked the X-Box to hook it up to the TV and played Luigi's Mansion until 10pm last night.
Weird.
I want to get Metroid, but I doubt I will ever get to play it as she has been absorbed by the inane majesty of the simple Mario type games... I just don't know what to think. I think it is great that she is playing video games (gives me more time to play on the PC), but at the same time it is rather strange that she would pick the GameCube of all systems. We have the X-box, PS, no PS2... I would of rather her got the PS2...
Oh, well. Anyone know any good games for this system?

Metroid Prime is great.
Wind Waker is a good game despite the new graphics.
I thought Star Fox blew--never bothered to finish it.

I LOVE the GameCube.
Metroid Prime is incredibly awesome, as is Wind Waker. MrFun - have you even played it? Despite the graphics, which I agree scared me at first, this game is seriously amazing in its storyline, gameplay, and addiction levels...the only thing it lacks is a 'harder' quest...only a 'pajama' quest which isn't much different. I spent my entire spring break playing and beating this game. It's just amazing.

The Game Cube is for little kids... Then again all of the cosuls are for little kids but the Game Cube is for real little kids. Take it back and buy an X-Box.

Poor flame attempt Oerdin.
#1) The wife bought it, so good luck returning it.
#2) He already has an XBox.
Anyway, definitely avoid StarFox Adventures (merely looking over my roommie's shoulder showed what a poor Zelda clone it was), and definitely pick up Eternal Darkness, one of the best games I've played in awhile.

The Wind Waker is simply amazing.
I thought Super Mario Sunshine was criminally underrated.
Metroid Prime is outstanding, but may induce nausea.
Just rented F-Zero, it's a blast... wish I knew how to get a boost off the starting line... damn Blockbuster not giving the book with the game...
And here's a little something that is just a plain stupid amount of fun--Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2.
Mario Kart will be released very shortly, as will Rouge Squadron 3. Both look promising.
And, of course, all the EA Sports titles that you can get for your X-Box, too... NCAA Football...

You should get the gameboy player. It makes the cube much more worth it. Thousands of cheap games to play. And I prefer the likes of, say, Metroid fusion and the S. Mario world to the 3d console games. Keep it simple.

My wife is a Silent Hill fan. We have a PS2, and all three games.

Rogue Squadron 2 is; it was a launch title. Rogue Squadron 3 is the one that's not out yet.

Mr. Fun: Once Knights of the Old Republic comes out for PC, less. But there's still Halo co-op (tons of fun, inexplicably not on the PC version), and Panzer Dragoon Orta is good for some cursing practice considering its difficulty.
Fable might be good stuff, too.

You can get a single disc with all the Sonic games on for next to nothing (all right, not full price).
Ahhh, reminiscing.

GameCube's got some decent games.
Eternal Darkness, which is very much in the line of Resident Evil (but in my opinion trumps its control system, and has one of the most innovative magic systems in any game). This is definitely not cutesy and some moments will scare the living daylights out of you.
Rogue Leader. The best Star Wars game on any console gets an upgrade, with great new graphics. The $#@!ing AT-AT lariat bit is still too bloody difficult to do though.
Super Smash Bros. Now's your chance to pick up a Starman, Fire Flower, or even Super Scope... and promptly use it to bash Yoshi's head in with! DIE DIE DIE YOSHI!!! (Join our "Yoshi Is Evil and Gimpy and Thus Must Die" league at http://www.enixine.dabsol.co.uk/hmbhuntingsong.html )
Metroid Prime. Quite simply one of the most atmospheric and compelling sci-fi FPSes out there on console. Does justice to the most venerable line of alien encounter games.
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Anybody who says cel-shaded animation graphics can't go along with plot and storyline evidently never watched much anime. This is something of a cross between an epic tale like Mononoke and a sword-and-cutlass derring-do like Laputa. But why his sister? There's only so much fun he can legally have with her after she's rescued...
Pikmin. You can achieve the same effect by smoking something illegal and going outside to take a look at the insects in your garden. But Pikmin is cheaper, legal, and far more addictive.
Games to avoid:
Splinter Cell. This was hyped, bought, and returned after completion. Good for a rental but not worth the recent release price.
Ghost Recon. Same as above, only without the "good for a rental" bit.

Pikmin is outstanding! Very much looking forward to the sequel.
