Not all of them. Healthy relations are revitalising.
Bad ones, of course, hurt like there's no tomorrow.

At the end, I discovered she was having an affair with my roommate, who was my best friend at the time. Needless to say, it was a completely horrible, soul rending event that tossed me into a bottomless abyss. What made things worse was that was in the middle of
After I had left the place several years, a friend told me they got married...
What about you? Has anything horrible like that happened to you?

Well Ranger we have finally found a point of agreement. Your story is almost identical to mine which hapened about 25 years ago. You could insert my name in the above excerpt of your post and it would be almost entirely acturate. Maybe we are soul mates?
I am engaged now to a very nice Thai lady so I look on the former relationship as a learning experience. I learned to forgive and go on with life. I hope that you are having better luck now as well.

Either the death of my grandmother, or the death of my dog, Sneakers toar me apart.... she had been my oldest, truest and longest friend, she was sick for a long time, and while I was out with my mom my dad said she died...... I'll never know whether or not he had her killed, which hurts me even more.

Hell, only everything you've descried about her since she went of to school. Cuting herself off from those who care about her, hanging out with people who dno't like her, drinking, grades slipping, not caring about her appearance. I don't think the question is whether or not she's despressed, but how severe it is.
So here's a question fo you that is very personal and you don't have to answer, but you should at least think about. If her actions were the result of severe depression, how much control over herself did she have? Depending on the case, what does that mean for you? I'm not implying you have any obligations to "resuce" her or you owe her anything. Although I suffer from depression, dealing with a depressed friend or lover is a special kind of hell. Good luck.

oh, i know healthy ones are amazing. but it unfortunately seems that there are so few of them, especially looking in here.
and i can't say anything about bad romantic relationships, either, since i have no experience with them yet.

Man...I never thought I'd say it, but this thread makes me happy to be boringly married.
I had about 5 epic breakups and devastating betrayals, but hey, I'm a bit of a dramatist, so that was normal.
Hang in there.

that put an end to a comparatively minor disagreement we'd had before.

That's terrible. I hope you have some good friends who care for you as you are. You're mom sounds like she is very immature in this regard. She doesn't sound like she is someone who you can really count on to love you unconditionally at this time.
|
Well actually I had to came out of it by myself, as my best friend already has its troubles to care of, because of the latest girlfriend trashing him- actually I'm quite autosufficient, apart from the pure financial point of wiew, but I plan to complete my studies in about 5 years then finally go away and never see her again

I told my wife I love her tonight. Having someone who you feel a sense of being joined with (despite all the ups and downs) is priceless.
So, have hope...all those "missed chances" are just learning experiences you can employ when you meet the right person.
It all makes sense in the end...trust me.
