Ahnold praises Adolf Hitler

CAMPAIGN BOMBSHELL: ARNOLD PRAISED HITLER IN BOOK PROPOSAL
Am unearthed book proposal by Pumping Iron's director George Butler is set throw the California recall race in to new levels of complete chaos.
The book proposal quotes Arnold Schwarzenegger naming monster Adolf Hitler as a hero!
MORE
ABC News, which broadcast the remarks on Thursday, said they were contained in an unpublished book proposal with quotes from what it calls a "verbatim transcript" of the interview.
Asked about his heroes, the young Schwarzenegger was quoted as saying; "I admired Hitler, for instance, because he came from being a little man with almost no formal education, up to power.
I admire him for being such a good public speaker and for what he did with it."
The actor was quoted as saying he wished he could experience being .."like Hitler in the Nuremberg stadium and have all those people scream at you and just being total agreement whatever you say."
Asked by ABC News to comment on the old remarks, Schwarzenegger said: "I cannot remember any of these. All I can tell you is that I despise everything Hitler stood for. I despise everything the Nazis stood for ... everything the Third Reich stood for."
The author of the book proposal told ABCNEWS that the quotes needed to be seen in context.

Combined with Arnold's history of abuse against women coming out, will this be enough to sink the Schwarzenegger campaign? Could this save Davis? Will California Republicans now finally have the balls to back a real Republican (McClintock)?

So? Bush had a DUI before his election, and he still got ele...well...stole. But he still managed to become President.
Noone's opinion is going to be changed. Ahnie fans will say we're bringing out the Hitler comparison (remember Godwin's Law?), regardless of whatever Ahnold really did.
It won't save Davis. I think most people view him as the second Hitler anyways

He doesn't say he praised Uncle Adolf's beliefs or what he did, he praises his personality. He was a great speaker, and he did come from nothing to taking over the Weimar Republic. Extraordinary, but terrible. Fascinating, but horrible.

If this builds up steam he's toast.
I mean you can't get a better campaign slogan than "My opponent loves Hitler!"
Well maybe "My opponent is in favour of paedophilia!" might beat it.

Man who among the Republicans can criticise a skirt chasing cigar pervert from Arkansas, when they have an orgy-loving, steroid abusing, incompetent sex-pest Nazi from Austria.
edit: NOTE TO THE MODERATORS - it is now utterly unjustifiable to close threads on the California recall when a poster invokes a Schwarzenegger/Hitler comparison.

I doubt it will get much credence.
Do you want a copy of the "verbatim transcript" of my conversation with Arnold about setting up farm animal and kiddie porn sites? I'd be happy to give it to you... if the price was right.
Arnold is firmly in public figure immunity territory, so he has no legal recourse even against the most blatantly false and malicious sort of statements - not saying whether this is or isnt, but the thing is nobody can "prove" anything at this point, and there's no hazard to anyone who smears Arnold.
If California Republicans want to back McClintock (who I prefer even for non-strategic reasons), that's fine, they'll either return Davis' gift and blow the recall, or elect Bustamante.
Davis had it made - the recall momentum was spent after the first newssplash about Arnold, Issa was out, the circus aspects of 130 candidates and Gary Coleman and pornstars and etc. was making the whole thing look ridiculous. Voters were forgetting why the Davis recall thing happened - the budget was over, old news, and the state was being humiliated with the candidate circus. Then Davis decided he couldn't leave well enough alone, and he had to start showing up and opening his mouth.

Even some english reporters heavely opposed to Hitler, later admitted standing up and starting to clap and cheer.
They guys was - regrettably - very good at what he did.

I want to see a credable source confirm this with real copies of the interview or books in question. Right now it's just rumors and so and so knows a friend who talked to a guy... etc.

The media was making it look like a circus, perhaps to deter future recalls. Too bad 3rd party candidates don't get that much attention even in races with maybe 3-5 candidates.

Speaking of the Porn Star I watched a hilarious quote from her on TV the other night. Some reporter asked her that since she makes several hundred thousand dollars a year how can really know how it feels like to be the common man. She said the common man is always getting ****ed in the ass by the government and she knows exactly how it feels to be ****ed in the ass!
God damn! I'd keep her around just so we can keep hearing funny stuff like that. I mean that's why the Italians keep Berlisconi around isn't it?

Yet another example of taking things out of context...though Ahnold really should have known better (or rather, his campaign staff should).

Quite sad that being a Nazi is somehow more acceptable in our society than favoring pedophilia. But you are right.

Can they now successfully argue to the courts that the election has been Godwindized, and therefore must be closed?

The Drudge quote fails to mention that Arnie is supposed to have said this in 1975. Since that date, Arnold has been great supporter of Jewish causes in the United States and has a record of condemning Nazism. Even if he did say this then, Arnie no longer believes that Hitler was a great man.
However, the fact that ABC has joined the anti-Schwarzenegger smear campaign is remarkable. This is typically confined to the Democrats in California, particularly, the infamous Gray Davis. If ABC got this story by itself, it is clear they are openly siding with the Democrat party against Schwazenegger. If they got the story from Davis, well this is to be expected from the low blow Democrat.

So the news media should decline to report smear allegations against Republicans and only report them against Dems?

You mean in that you're going to whine and post about it the rest of your life?
And if you want to keep starting threadjacks about specific posters here, you might have to wait a week in between chances, if you catch my drift.

Yes! Most definitely yes! Because it surfaced on eve of the election and there is no time for an independent investigation.
Here is quote from the ABC site,
"ABCNEWS obtained a copy of an unpublished book proposal with quotes from a verbatim transcript of an interview Schwarzenegger gave in 1975 while making the film Pumping Iron. "
From whom did they get the copy? That is real news. The source of the smear is more important than the smear itself.
Remember, the NY Times sat on the Brodderick rape story until the impeachment vote was over.

Edan,
Napoleon and Caesar and others tried to do similar things, yet it's ok to praise them for what the did right or for their personality.
After 60 years we should think about trying to do this that *sshole too. ( not that he did many good things, but you know what I mean )

I think this is a non-issue, unless Arhnold still feels that way. In which case, he's politically toast & likely divorced and out of work.
I doubt he still thinks these things.
