Demographics question...
I have a poser for our Poly aces!
When you activate the Demographics (F11) screen,
you may notice that the Per Capita and Annual Income readouts have a little '$' sign.
Now, no disrespect to my American friends, but a dollar sign is no use in my fantasy scenario...
Anyone know how I could change the '$' to 'Pennies'..???

Gee, Curt, this is my 3rd trip here today. Unfortunately, I think this one's embedded in the Civ2.exe. I just checked it for you with a hex editor. Other units like %, 0 and ,000 are there as well (look for HISTORYRANK). The rest are in labels.txt - but I figure you know that.

Rats! I was hoping you could find something other than the dead end my limited search came up with. You can play with a lot on the demographics screen, but those $'s can stick out like a sore thumb. I'd imagine finding the correct $ in the exe or a dll is a needle-in-a-haystack mission.

Hehe. It's mate, dude or man around here. They're all interchangeable.

Not on this occasion - it took me less than a minute to find. I've already pointed you there, anyway (see above); plus I confirmed it: backup Civ2.exe, replace the unit bytes with garbage, view garbage in Demographics screen. I'd be mightily surprised if there's an override somewhere else.

I've got a wild imagination! Only one instance of '$' in the exe? I'll start searching. Love to rid that screen of $'s.

Aarrgh, no! In case I haven't made myself clear, the $ in question is immediately below the HISTORYRANK entry in the Civ2.exe. I hope I have managed to save you from searching. There are loads of $s in the Civ2.exe, therefore, this was not my search criterion. I searched for ",000" - one of the denominations displayed in the Demographics screen but not found in labels.txt.
