Bug: Apolyton Clock
The Apolyton Clock is wrong.
It does not take into account Daylight Savings Time, which is applied in most parts of the world.
This results in a lot of confusion about time zones, chat times, etc.
Suggestion to change this:
(edited for all the colour-haters)
1) Use GMT as standard. GMT does not change with daylight savings time.
Let every member choose his own time from a dropdown menu: GMT, GMT+1, GMT+2, ... (etc) --> without specifying locations.
or
2) Use London time as a standard. London time is GMT including daylight savings, meaning London is GMT in winter and GMT+1 in summer.
Then, let every member choose his time zone relative to London.
or
3) Automatically adjust the clock (and the GMT reference) with Daylight Savings. This is done for "Apolyton time" (whatever that is), but the display of the time zones is wrong: for example, during summer, it reads "GMT" instead of "GMT +1" for London.
I hope this bug can be fixed easily.

Hmmm, why don't you go into your control panal and have it display whatever time you want.

See number 3) in the post above (which I probably added after your reply). The GMT reference does not match my location's time zone at this moment.

I think there is a bug causing silly colours to appear in BFM's posts. I'd rather that was fixed.

I see it as yellow, and it's quite hard to read.

Why don't you use a color readable by all styles?

I mean there are ways of using the Quote Color Which should be no problem reading from any style. Or you can Invert colors |
But you shouldn't use any fixed colors as they can look bad in other styles.

I love how people whine about things that they can easily fix by themselves in the current options settings...
And I really hate when they offer suggestions in almost impossible to read colors

I love you all. Thank you for your kind and supportive words.
There. I fixed the colours. Now please consider my suggestions.
Ming -- I'm not trying to "whine". I'm trying to report a bug. One which cannot be fixed by the current options settings.

I believe that chaning the system to be GMT based would probably be more work than it's worth. The problem is only when the timezone the server is in swhiches from DTS, but other timezones still are in DTS and vice versa, and it should not span over more than two months per year. I think Ii can live with it.

Uhhhh... you can set your personal time to reflect ANY time you wish. So what if you have to make a simple adjustment twice a year... And if you have to select a region you aren't in because of a one hour difference to make your local time correct... no big deal.
The owners put in a lot of time and effort on this site. That time should be spent on things that can't be fixed... unlike this, which anybody can fix for themselves with very little effort.
Now granted... many of the comments posted in this thread probably appear harsher than they were intended because you can't see all the smiles... winks.. and lol's...
Oh... and this is a wink

Hmmm, this doesn't qualify for a bug since it's intentional. (a wink)

Right now the farking clock is of no importance. Use your own clock. Gee, images go screwy and someone starts a campaign for a little issue like the system time. Please, some realistic ideas now.

There is no GMT + 13 time, so in summer all of my times are off by an hour.
This is no trouble in winter (I can set it to GMT +11). In summer I never get the correct time when looking at posts.
It is currently GMT +13 now, FYI.

I'm sure there's many issues we both can agree on.
BFM,
that's not a real excuse really. Simple maths. Earlier this year I had to quickly count in my head what time it was in EST, due to my clan membership, so I had to keep track when matches and scrimmages are. And when you do that live on TeamSpeak (speak about times), then you quickly pick it up. Really, you have to admit that's not an issue. Even less of an issue if we would switch to Swatch Internet Times and start measuring time in Beats.

lol Indeed.
All they need to do to "fix" this properly is just add some more times to the time list (such as +13 for example) so that anyone can pick the right time, even if the server thinks they are in a different country.

Hmmm...I thought that this forum was for reporting bugs about Apolyton and discussing ways to make Apolyton a better experience for everybody.
Sad to see that in recent threads, people get flamed for doing just that.
Nobody says that a thread in this forum means that the poster demands immediate action. On the contrary, a post in this forum should be taken a assistance to the owners. Sort of a "kicking ideas around" kind of thing.
But apparently some people are too busy finding things to criticize, too appreciate that a thread in this forum, however insignificant, is genuinely meant as an assistance to the community as a whole.

C'mon, Asmo. :-) You should know that we didn't mean anything bad with the criticism. Of course the thingy mentioned by BFM has some importance, but right now it feels very minor.

Well this is the only ongoing bug at Poly that annoys me, and there is no way around it. Makes life in Democracy Games utter hell at times. I take Ming's point about just changing the time option every now and again, but that is not an option for us Kiwis (no GMT+13).
So, instead of asking for some probably difficult like automatic taking-into-account of daylight savings, can I request an easier way to fix this problem - can some Administrator please add a GMT+13 line to the list of possible times?
Honestly, it's bad enough I have to learn what all your silly little past timezones are without having to remember that mine is wrong too!

Thanks, Asmodean. That was indeed the intention of this thread.
If the drop-down list can be adjusted easily I suggest to remove all locations from it -- just work with GMT, GMT+1, ... , GMT+13.

Why?
I'm sure there are a lot of people that need to see the location because they're not sure what the + is for their timezone.

Because it'll be correct then.
But you've got a point -- maybe it can be made something like this:
GMT +1 - London (summer). Paris (winter)
GMT +2 - Paris (summer), Athens (winter)
...

Rah,
they can look it up elsewhere. Just add a hyperlink to Time and Date.com next to the drop down menu and voilá. No problem at all.

But how does the current system help any, what with you ending up at the wrong time if you use the correct location...
