Is this a good news or bad news for the californians?
Oh, and how did the pornstar do in these elections (I remember hearing of such candidate)?

From that list of candidates, I would definitely have gone with Diana Foss. No contest.
And I'm sorry to see Michael Jackson only got 590 votes. No doubt bad press is the cause of that.

Diana Foss - or Ross?
After a quick google I've found out that 'my' candidate, Todd Richard Lewis, is also known as 'the bumhunter'- Maybe I should withdraw my support.

Maybe he can turn this bad form around as he has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Unfortunaly the jury don't seem to be all that impressed.

Not a pornstar, a porn magazine owner. I suppose you are talking about Larry Flint, owner of the Hustler.
Didn't you see the movie about his life, "People Vs. Larry Flynt" ? It was directed by Milos Forman, with Woody Harrelson playing Flint.
He is currently 7th with 0.3 % of the votes (over 13 thousand).
Or was there a pornstar, too ?

Mary Carey is listed as "Mary Cook".

I'm still willing to bet that Arnold won't be able to keep his hands off of the girls. Would it be possible for California to dump the "recall" idea in favor of good old fashioned impeachement? Impeachment lasts longer and is much more fun.

Arnie takes office once the election is certified. First the counties have to certify, then the Sec. State. Counties have 25 days to certify. The whole process must be done in 39 days.
Arnie's people are talking about taking power in two weeks. Gray Davis said he would leave office in "several weeks." Jesse Jackson, though, was talking "disenfranchisement" and "lawsuit." He may lead an effort to raise court challenges in some counties, or demand recounts, in order to block certification as long as possible.
Just let me say that if the Dem's do that, it will create even further anger against their party in the state.
As to next year, if Arnie does well, Bush could carry "Kali"-fornia. Arnie is extremely popular because he is very pro-business and pro-jobs while having no social-conservative baggage. If Bush learns from Arnie and adopts the same approach, he could win here.
"What happens after California recall election
The Associated Press Tuesday, October 7, 2003
(10-07) 18:41 PDT (AP) --
A look at what happens after the Oct. 7 recall election:
* Registrars in California's 58 counties have 28 days to complete official vote count. County supervisors have an additional seven days to approve results and send to secretary of state's office.
* Within five days of county certification, any registered voter can request a recount if willing to pay for the costly process.
* Secretary of state has four days to certify county election results. Under certain conditions, secretary of state can certify results before counties finish their official count. Entire certification process cannot take longer than 39 days from election day -- Nov. 15.
* Upon certification of recall and replacement, new governor can immediately be sworn into office. Barring legal challenge, the latest an inauguration could happen is Nov. 16.
* Governor has control over 1,100 appointments to top state jobs including the 13 Cabinet members, dozens of department heads, and hundreds of deputies and top state executives.
* State law requires that governor submit a balanced budget proposal to the Legislature by Jan. 10.

I've said it before, I know, but we really need the Mandate of Heaven in this country.
And yes, Mary Carey the pornstar was a candidate. Her platform included fighting with Ashcroft to defend the porn industry, auto-registering people who sign up for unemployment for jury duty, and making lap dances tax-deductible. So they really did elect a lesser evil...by a narrow margin.

K, yes, verily. I think people know that if you have no business you have no jobs. The Democrat party has a reputation for being anti-business.

Hmmm, I remember certain people saying Arnie would never win and Bustamante was a done deal .
Anyway, it's interesting to see that Schwartzenegger got almost 50% of the vote with McClintock getting 13%. I'm thinking Cruz was tarred with the brush of Davis.

I am glad that the recall went through!
I think if all Arnold does is veto the junk that comes out of the legislature that will good. I also think that he can shed lots of light on what goes on in the State capital and with that attention, maybe things will get done.
Maybe the next one to get recalled should be Bustamante.

The best part of this is that Arnold has 48% of vote. Thus this will give him the support he needs when he moves into the office of the Governor and starts trying to fix the mess Gray left behind him.

It wasn't that long ago, just prior to the debate the Democrat establishment and their press lapdogs said Arnie lost, that Clinton political advisor **** Morris said that Arnold was not going to win, but that Bustamente would.
I think the thing that turned the election around was the ACLU power grab at the 9th Circuit. That made people angry. Then Arnie did well in the debate. Then the LA Times struck, making the people mad again.
Had the Dems simply played fair. Had they fielded Diane Feinstein. They may have won. But they played dirty to the wire.

Yes if the Dems had dumped Davis and join everyone else in the recall and put Diane Feinstein up, it would be much different result today. Well its their fault for not thinking this through.
If Davis had waited to tripple the car tax untill after the recall, had not given drivers licenses to illigeals and done some real workers comp reform I think he would have never been recalled.

California, as a whole, is a majority socially liberal state, although it does have a very large number of social conservatives. As a whole, "Kali"-fornia it is immensely pro-business as anyone who observes our economy can see. To win here as a Republican, you really have to be at least in the middle on abortion and the environment, but have to hammer the pro-business, pro-job line.
In recent years, Republicans have been running candidates who either have no vision or who are social conservatives. It is very hard for such candidates to win here.
Arnold, a "liberal" Republican probably never could have gotten the Republican nomination given that he is so liberal on social issues. This election was perfect for him. He could by-pass the party and go directly to the people. He turned out to be the ideal candidate.
What I am suggesting is that Arnold is the prototype for the Republican party's future. Conservative on fiscal affairs. Pro business. Pro jobs. Pro strong America. But moderate to liberal on social issues.
If you think about it, this was the position of JFK as well. It is no wonder that the Kennedy's were there on the platform with Arnie. Schwarzenegger is the true heir to JFK, while is brother in the Senate is a skirt-chasing, boozing, bad driver.
And, Che, note that Arnie took half the union vote!
