Unit Maximum
Is there a known ceiling to the number of units which Civ can handle, some kind of unit maximum? For example, can there only be "X" number per Civ or is it "X" number per scenario or does it vary depending upon the total number of civs in the scenario?
While testing a new scenario I had placed about 500 units for one civ. But when I saved the game as a scenario and restarted, about 150 just disappeared. I recall Nemo hypothesizing that the "limit is about 2048", but he never mentioned where that estimate came from.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

IIRC I think it's just a general ceiling of units. No matter how many civs or whatnot, there are only a limited number of units. But your recent incident with the units seems to dispute that...

I've had this problem before....
It seems that no matter the size of the civs or map or anything. The game will only allow for a certain amount of units to be on the map at any one time during the entire game.
Although, i've seen this loose effect if you continue playing after you win the game.
I've done this where I went for space. And the AI kept going until it was a giant nuke-fest between me and the rest with about 10,000 units in the game.
But the rest of the time the game automatically deletes the extra units. I think it selects them by the newest ones created get deleted.
As for the actual number limit, I have no idea. I think it's around 1,000.....

Hehehehe.....It helps to be able to laugh at yourself.
Well, the original question still stands, because this scenario will have a LOT of units....
BUT I now know what caused the "disappearing units" problem. In this scenario is a Civ whose primary function is to generate a variety of terrain/nature type features. It's similar to the "Nature" Civ that Harlan used to simulate coral reefs in his WWII-Pacific Scenario. But this civ also has several cities which are located right in the middle of things, so when I placed all these natural objects willy nilly about the map, unbeknownst to me they homed themselves to the nearest city. (Duh!) Since I'd already set up the support and happiness levels in the "Nature" cities, I never went back to check out the status screens. Man, some of them were being asked to "support" over 70 units with a shield base of 5 or less! So what we had was a massive disbanding of units on the first turn. Gak! Now I either have to SIGNIFICANTLY beef up these cities, or else spend a few days clicking on units one-by-one and homing them to "None". Pardon me while I stop to retch......

Or you could give their units fanatic status right?
Are you talking about ToT or MGE? I only have MGE so I wouldn't know about ToT.

My question pertains to FW/MGE, but if anyone has info on ToT that too would be welcome.

make that civ fundy.
make the unit in the fundy spot the unit you want 500 of.
give leo's to one city.
edit techs/domains for both unit slots.
give that nation one tech.
watch all the units become cost free.
I've heard that the fundy flag doesn't work.

The Hard unit limit is either 2040 or 2048. This includes all civilization's units including the barbarians.
