I need some virus help please
Alright, I just got off the phone with my isp, I explained to him what my problem was. Which was, most search engines do not work, when I try to go to google, and I get this site that pops up and says something like "There is no website configured at this addres" and it says Cpanel at the top.
Well... the tech on the phone said its a virus and that he cannot help me with it... I was hoping someone here can.

it could just be that your gateway's not configured.
open up the command prompt when you're connected to the internet.
if you're in 9x/me, type winipcfg. if you're in nt/2k/xp, type ipconfig /all.
if you don't see anything under "default gateway" or "dns servers", then it's likely not to be a virus at all, but a misconfiguration of your connection. to reconfigure it, you'll have to call your isp.
if it really is a virus, you can go to grisoft.com and download avg free--it's a small program, <1MB so it fits on a floppy diskette. run it and it might clear out the problem for ya.
this is if you don't have symantec/norton or mcafee.
once you're back on the internet, download adaware from lavasoftusa.com, run it, and then download spybot from security.kolla.de and run that second. then immunize.
finally, download the google toolbar, and allow it to block popups if you're in ie. if you use mozilla or opera, go into the preferences and disable popups.

No, it's not the gateway. I think it's a trojan called Qhosts.

Q^3,
I don't think it's the gateway, since it's just the search engines he couldn't reach, not all the sites.

Go here, download the AV scanner, and run.
If that doesn't work, try this or this.
Wraith
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port
& the bus is interrupted as a very last resort
& the memory address makes your processes abort
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!

problem with cpanel, if that's what it is, is that all the major anti-spyware progs admit that that one's a ***** to remove.
so repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 as necessary after backing up the few document files you want to keep.
