Wanted: Testers for two projects (a scenario and civ2 city editor)
I need testers for two projects.
Project 1: My scenario about the Algerian War of Independence (1954-1962). I need people to check balance and level of difficulty.
Project 2: My Civ2 City Editor. It allows you change improvements, food and shield boxes, trade routes, city owner and city founder.
If you post here, I will e-mail you the url where you can download the files.
UPDATE
Now that I have a rough idea of interest, the url for anybody else interested is http://users.stargate.net/~harden/beta.html
Both projects are there.

# 2 sounds very interesting... for which versions does it work (I have both FW and ToT)? - Regardless which version, I would like to test it!
I wish I had more time to test the scenario for you as well, but I am lacking time, sorry. Nevertheless, good luck for both your projects!

I'm interested in number two. It's pretty difficult to edit cities with Paint Shop Pro...

Everybody
I'm sending out emails now.
Prometheus, the city editor is not for graphics, only city charactaristics as defined by the game.

Number 3? You need glasses St. Leo! There are only numbers 1 and 2. All right, I'll start to test it when I can start placing things on the map for my scenario... which will be either tonight or tommorrow morning, depending on how late I get to bed. Say, by the way, I'm making a website soon, can I put it on there when I do it?

Based on the screenshot, I think you should add a wonder assigner (I know that the data-structure is different from improvs).

For anyone else who is interested the URL is http://users.stargate.net/~harden/beta.html
Both projects are there. The reason I did not post the link at first is that I wanted an idea of how much interest there would be. If I just gave out the link right away, people could go there, get it, but I'd never know who or how many.
St Leo,
There main reason I don't have wonders is that I don't yet understand the layout for them. I guess it's there in Allard's document, but I haven't taken the time to study that. I started this before Allard published that.

Gothmog: This is a MARVELOUS tool! FINALLY it's possible to place palaces in Barbarian Cities AND change their build queues to churn out naval and ground units. Wow! This is sooooo cool! And TRADE!!! Wow again! It's now a breeze to create trade routes between ANY cities you want...with any commodities you want! This is really going to improve the quality of scenarios everywhere. If you can only add a "Wonders Window", I'll think I've died and gone to heaven!!
**stops to wipe huge saliva puddle off keyboard**
What more can I say...WOW3!?

Kull,
The problem of not being able to edit Barbarian cities in the game was my main motivation for making this. You are the second person to mention a wonders screen. Sounds like I'll have to put this on my list for version 2.

Gothmog, please note that I will send no playtest information in from the city editor until I get to that long stage in Nat Turner.

A coordinate based Build City option would be mucho appreciated. Being able to place several size 20 Barbarian City with preselected improvements an a chosen objective level would be really cool, especially if the program remembered the options chosen between cities.

St Leo,
Don't hold your breath for that one. Doing just what I did was hard enough.
Everbody else: Has anybody been able to crash civcity?
I won't feel right about releasing it until I think it's somewhat crash proof.

My computer crashed yesterday... I was able to backup my scenario. I'm starting again tomorrow, but I can't get units.gif to work. Anyone know why? I'll be able to (hopefully) run CivCity tomorrow. Apologies for any delays.

Shadowstrike,
What kind of problem with units.gif? Did it crash your game. Perhaps your gif is corrupted because you were saving it when your computer crashed. You might want to do a scandisk.

OK, units.gif is in the scenario directory. I did the units.gif and rules.txt files first, then doublechecked them before moving them into the scenario directory. Can that be the problem? My units keep reverting to the defaults pictures....

Gothmog: I've had no problems with the City Editor (although I haven't REALLY stress tested it yet!). CivTweak is a different story:
1) Scenarios or Saved Games which are hex-edited to "Barbarian Wrath" always crash the program. Not surprising, actually, since Barbarian Levels are one of the Civ-tweak settings, and "Wrath" isn't one of the options.
2) A scenario in which byte 20 is set to 50 instead of D0 will cause Civ-Tweak not to recognize any of the tribes. D0 is the correct value, but scenarios will work fine with a 50 setting. Maybe the solution is to make it selectable in Civ-Tweak. Or pop-up a window explaining the problem and offereing to fix it for the user.

Kull,
You've pointed out a problem with CivTweak. The reason my code checks the scenario flag is that in an ordinary saved game the leader names (etc.) are not embedded in the save file. In the next revision of CivTweak, I'll have to revise a new method to check for the presence of leader names. I always turn on the scenario flag when building a scenario. It never occurred to me that somebody would build a scenario without turning on the flag, but I guess they can.
I think CivCity uses the same logic.
