My best friend and I have nicknames of Yoda and obiwan respectively.
He's really quite tall, so you can figure out why he called me obiwan.
I wanted to have obiwan but that was taken, so I picked Ben Kenobi, which I think works much better than my old nick of obiwan18.

What about Old Ben, Old Ben Kenobi, Uncle Ben, Only Hope
I think Ben fits as you are, IMO, the resident christian religous council on the OT (kind of like Ben was). Which, by the way, is much appreciated ...

My name is Ollie and I am a Chemist. And it sounds like some bad guy from recent events.
My former nick Olaf Hårfagre was something I had used on discussion boards the last 5 years to show my Viking background. I also used it in highschool because of my poodel haircut. It's also a nick I sometimes used in computer games. But eventually I grew bored of it.

i was originially edgecrusher on the old alpha.owo boards and carried the name over here, i went through a personal crisis of sorts and ended up changing it to another derivative of a fear factory song: self bias resistor. i dunno... i think it speaks to the very soul of what we all are: self biased. because if you don't look out for yourself, nobody else will.

When I begun playing LAN with my friends, I had to take a nickname that was as ludicrous as my friends' ones. "Spiff", from "Spaceman Spiff" in the Calvin & Hobbes comics, was most appropriate, as it didn't sound either too English nor too French. Besides, it had the added value of having 5 letters, i.e the max tolerated by Chrono Trigger.
Although "Spiff" remains my handle for everything offline, and with my friends, I became "Spiffor" on the internet because I can't stand having a figure behind my name. AFAIK, there is no other Spiffor on the internet

I really can't remember why I picked Shi Huangdi, except that I remember I didn't like my old username anymore. Inertia is really the only reason I have kept with it.

It the same name I use for everything else; it was the name of a governor of Sicily some time in Ancient Rome. He spent all the time having drunken parties, had no navy to defend against pirates (who practically burned the place down) and committed fraud on a larger scale than most modern politicians. Instead of waiting to be prosecuted, he fled to the south coast of France, complete with all the money/riches he had acquired.
So now you know

From one of my favorite books.
However, I am considering a change to Deathtongue, which was Bill the Cat's Band name.
What do you think?
ACK!

I needed a short name when I started using the internet back in '93.
"Agathon" fit the bill quite nicely for various reasons.
It's short and could be used as a username at my old uni which had an 8 letter restriction.
It's the name of a (mediocre) Greek Tragedian who appears in Plato's Symposium. Only fragments of his work remain. My fave:
"Even God cannot change that which has already come to pass."
It's the Greek term for "good" and the Form of the Good is the supreme reality in Platonic metaphysics.
It's a secret acronym.
It's not my real name - my father named his children after Civil War Generals.

Misspelling of the German word for nuclear weapons. It spawned from a family joke about things my cousin shouldn't say in the airport on his way through Germany.

 Good question...
Well, my nickname stems from my first email account. I was trying to register my real name (along with different spellings of it) but they were always taken and I didn't want a number after the name...so I picking German cities that I enjoyed while being stationed over there - and Wittlich worked. So from that time forward I've adopted it as my own.
EDIT: On a side note, since my nickname is a German name, it is pronounced germanicly (is that a real word?). Pronounced: "V - it - lish."
