Mge must die!!!
That's the 5th scenario I've wanted to play this week that I've loaded up only to be told I can't do it because it's for MGE. Since MGE can apparently read FW scenarios, why don't people just design in FW? I'm not sure what extra fun little options MGE has, but surely they can't be worth excluding a large percentage of the Civ2 community from your scenarios. (This post does not, of course, apply to those people who only have MGE)

Yes, I am very angry that I started Nat Turner in MGE already; I hope the FW converter works on it.

The only thing that MGE does is a doubling of event space and that can be achieved through external means.

Yeah, let's get the torches and lynch it!
But to be serious, I have to agree it gets on my nerves to download scenarios only to read a message when trying to start it that I cannot play the damn thing.

I think the reality of the situation is that the original civ2 and the FW add on are not available in stores to buy. Therefore, people who only started playing civ in the last year or two have no other choice but to use MGE.

I bought Civ2 when it first came out, but I then bought MGE to play multiplayer with various people.
If there is a way to convert the saved game of Nat Turner into FW, I'd like to know how (I save my scenarios as saved games in the scenario file to record progress in case I make a mistake while developing the scenario).

I like MGE. I bought because I could play multiplayer and design scenarios. It wasn't until after I wrote my first one that I found out they were incompatible with FW.
I don't know how well it works, but there is a scenario converter on the Scenario League.

Theres a convertor for MPG-FW avaiable at Scenario League..... COnvert the scenario...if still doesn't work, break the events into two files after converting it....

I can assure you all that the scenario converter does not work. Several skilled programmers in our community have spent a significant amount of time researching the possibility of a converter. The collective impression that I have gotten from them is this: a converter is possible, but it would take allot of time to make and be a real pain in the @$$. Considering the fact that anyone can already buy the solution for $20 or less, I calculate the odds of any programmer investing 200 hours of his leisure time in the project, slim to nil.
To those of you appalled at the idea of dropping twenty greenbacks on you hobby I say, smile , because your civ addiction is still a hell of allot cheaper than crack.

That's exactly the reason why I am not planning to change my addictive consumer habits!

Ok, people fess up. Which scenarios have you found that were MGE only? I've been doing some work trying to fix some of the problems that occur running FW scenarios under MGE. I put out a call for MGE scenarios over in the creation forum and got no response. I did get pointed to one later, but the AI doesn't seem to be very aggressive at all. No AI bribe with any unit, diplo or otherwise. No research to speak of, and no attempt to create and use the misile type units. In fact the only really aggessive AI Civ are the barbarians and they are not all that bad. I was really surprised since this was created at the Deity level.
Thanks you for your time and assistance.

"Der Anstieg und der Fall des dritten Reich", "Up the Deadly Boot", and "The New Germany", all by John Petroski, come to mind.
