Jacki,
It looks like no one answered your question because it was too much fun to play with. Vanilla is the basic ice cream flavor in the States because it is most liked and least hated.
Vanilla civ is the civ game without changing the editor settings for game assumptions.

True - under Republic you get one more Trade per tile that produces Trade. Sure, the war weariness is a pain, but that's why the Americans pulled out of Vietnam, and why modern American wars are "shock and awe" campaigns that are all over in one game turn.

OK guys...we here in britain may be a backward "monarchy" (in actual fact the PM holds the power and he is elected) but the one one thing we aint is disrespectful to the dead. Di left two kids behind so show some respect for a great lady.
On a lighter note....who said vanilla was the favorite flavour...in my opinion it should be mint choc chip civ.

Is "mint choc chip civ III" a mod or a scenario?

I'd say it would be a mod where a number of game rules are changed but nothing else. A scenario, on the other hand, would be more like curry Civ III.

While we're on the subject of using ice cream flavors to describe different variations of CivIII, can someone tell me what neapolitan Civ3, Bananna Split Civ3, and Root Beer Float Civ3 would be?

Perhaps. I'm not too knowledgable on the subject, having recently bought the game.

Neapolitan Civ3?
Why, a small map game with the French, Egypt (that's close enough), and the Russians, of course.

so cheese and onion civ3 would be a version which only americans and english like and the rest of the world spits out immediatly
btw: it's true... a guy co-responsible for the launch of cheese and onion taste of P&G's pringles in germany, france and italy told us what a fiasko it was

on you making fun on Jackl
The standard Civ3 game is called 'vanilla civ' because all the versions have a 'v', as v1.17.
Therefore, 'v' for vanilla.
Had it been c1.17, it would have been 'chocolate civ'.
