I think this cutter is going to be used to protect a PEACE base. If the missing Atlantis cp is about NW of that base now (with escort, no doubt) then that probe foil will probably discovered anyway. It depends on how far from Atlantis that PEACE fleet is if the probe will be attacked or not. If we're lucky, and the probe can't be attacked, then a mind control is possible . Even the Calico cruiser is around as back up.
It looks like PEACE will attempt to found a colony on that Island where the Hive cutter is.
Anyway, if Hive attacks that probe, it's turn will be finished, thus it can't protect the PEACE base then. And our cruiser can take out the cutter in our turn again. I don't think Hive will have dispatched more cutters for PEACE benefit. I suggest to include the Plasma Garrison in Pampalona in the Task Force to Atlantis. Just in case Hive ignores the probe and quick assaults Atlantis with back up assaults from a PEACE fleet.
For the diplo message. I would warn them of the presence of the probe, but not the intentions. For all they now we could have discovered a PEACE fleet with other units and are just lurking for that transport. Also, the direction of how the probe is finished should hold enough message for the Hive that it is not directed to them.

The probe is pointing west. So as far as I see, they'll get the message it IS pointed towards them if we don't tell anything.
Btw, what should we do if the Hive cutter ends its turn on the same square as the PEACE transport? Attacking it would cause a war then.

Ah yes, I see that now. I thought that probe was supposed to come down from the NE since it started so much in the north. My error, should have asked the route you wanted to follow. I thought the probe would finish one tile to the SW of it's present position.
Ok, *sight* I suppose we have to tell Hive then your full story after the PEACE turn.

A mindcontrol? Is that possible on a seatile with multiple units on from different factions? Or do we have to send a vendetta declaration when we do that for a 'befriended' faction? We could always send it back to the Hive afterwards with some 'compensations' if in the game rules a vendetta is not declared by mindcontrolling befriended units.
Btw, in the diplo message you're mentioning battle plans (assimilation of Atlantis next turn). I know that it is pretty obvious, but I suggest not mentioning that.
Also, Most likely PEACE will have landed that cp on the island if that is their destination. It's only 7 tiles from Atlantis. Thus the Hive cutter has no reason to protect the fleet, but only to wait 'till the base is founded.
This is getting a little confusing. This year (2157) PEACE must found a base (I guess the cp on Yardarm Island) or else it is forced to surrender Atlantis next year (2158) when all defenses are gone? I suppose if we can show to the gods that all defenders are obliterated, and that we have a unit left capable of taking Atlantis in 2158, that PEACE is finished from the game. Or I'm I wrong in assuming this is the procedure?

No, it should be sent when the Hive gets their turn.
Btw, another matter. Have a look at this thread over at CGN. Would this be some advice from Kody to PEACE about how to defend against us? We know Kody is still looking at the Hive turn, from his comment in the general forum about the Hive still having Turnplayer Enigma as in-game leader, so he is more or less up to date and could offer advice. Of course I consider everything Kody does as suspicious but I find that thread rather a big coincidence, especially since he mentions the MCC.

I don't think so, but I should test to be sure. Unfortunately I don't have the time for that.

IIRC you have two mind control options:
1> mind control with the other faction knowing what you've done (automatic vendetta)
2> mind control without the other faction knowing what happened, and thus no vendetta. This option works when used against AI factions, but human factions will of course realize who's the offender, even if in-game it is supposedly unknown, so this option is kinda useless (and also has a lower chance of success).
[quote]Btw, in the diplo message you're mentioning battle plans (assimilation of Atlantis next turn). I know that it is pretty obvious, but I suggest not mentioning that.[/quote$
Ah ok. This:
Quote:
|
Now we will more or less become neighbours this year after our army and fleet assimilates Atlantis, we hope the Hive will respect our borders as well.
|
could be shortened into:
Quote:
|
We hope the Hive will respect our borders as well.
|
For the record, the reason why I contemplated including the original sentence, is because in her PM stating the supposed reasons why HongHu broke the Hive pact, she mentioned that the Hive fears our military potential. If that reason is true, they wouldn't want to start a war with us while our military forces are moving closer and closer to Hive territory, and they haven't built up defences yet. So I thought I'd play a game of bluff poker and perhaps even raise the stakes by saying that we have several cruisers positioned in the Atlantic Ocean, and that we intend to destroy the PEACE transport at all costs. We wouldn't be saying literally that we would attack the Hive if they helped PEACE, but they'd most likely get the message they shouldn't intervene with our military affairs unless they want an invasion.
Quote:
|
Also, Most likely PEACE will have landed that cp on the island if that is their destination. It's only 7 tiles from Atlantis. Thus the Hive cutter has no reason to protect the fleet, but only to wait 'till the base is founded.
|
If the PEACE transport was next to Atlantis at the end of MY 2155, that's indeed possible.
Quote:
|

AFAIK that's correct.

The mentioning of the MCC looks more an advice to counterattack atlantis after we have it. PEACE can't do anything this turn anymore.
What is this Kody, anyway? A thrown-out Hive member, a mod, or what? And why does he wishes to help anyone?
I quick readed that comment on how he broke in the Hive forum. But if he can do that, then why not to any other faction? He can throw around passwords as he likes then.

I can't claim to know everything, but I was around for some of this happening.
Kody is a helluva SMACer, with detailed and precise knowledge, which he used to great effect for the HIve. After some time someone got annoyed he was basically solely in charge and they ousted him. There were coups in leadership back and forth for a while, with the upshot that Kody was kicked out, allowed to rejoin for a while, and now we are at the state where Kody is not in any faction, yet is still sympathetic to the Hive and may be helping them to an uncertain degree. Kody made the Hive powerful, and they are largely living off his revolutions in governance.
Any advice he gives would be extremely valuable to any faction.

Kody promised to leave the ACDG for good. He is able to access all forums. He should not be giving advice to anyone. The fact he still looks at the Hive turn is a major point, and if he's helping any faction this needs addressing. However that thread is in General Help forum, and has not been posted in by PEACE members. I would consider it no to do with the DG. If he is directly helping any faction, I have a problem though.

This has been sent to HongHu:
Quote:
|
Hello again HongHu,
This turn a CPU probe skimship has spotted a Hivean plasma cutter entering the Atlantic Ocean. The probe skimship is now floating on the square South East of the Hivean cutter, and has contacted the cutter's captain to transfer the greetings of the Consciousness. We would like to inform you that the mission of that probe skimship is to infiltrate the Data Angel datalinks, and thus assure you that we have no intention to sail into Hivean territorial waters. We hope the Hive will respect our borders as well.
Friendly greetings,

No, he can't. He can only access the forums that he previously was a member of (Hive and the CGN Hive embassy ones)
He admitted to me that his assertion that he had found a way to gain access to the other forums was a bluff, either hoping that Tass or I would have him elevated to "godhood" status (much like I did with Tass when he cracked the passwords) or would have him banned by Ming (he doesn't have the self control just to stay away from the forums)

Click the Hive Member list, and click on any member you choose. Among the info you see there is a link to the last posted message. Check JustinSane, he's the newbie I'm thinking of.

He's not a member (in the list) but as mentioned above, he can (and does occasionally) still post to the thread
The new members have been recruited by HongHu from her PBEM playing associates. I have no reason to believe that any are either Kody or Enigma_Nova using a double log-on

Dear Function Maniac,
I'm happy to learn that the target of your probe skimship is not the Hive. Needless to say the current situation is very sensitive. The people of the Hive are very unsettling seeing that the CPU's aggressiveness has started moving very closely toward the Hive land. After much discussion we have decided to trust you one more time and to let the probe ship live. We hope this action conveys again our desire for peace. However, please be noted that the Hive will not tolerate any hostile action toward it.
Sincerely,
Ambassador HongHu
|
I think we should ask them why they consider CPU agressive, and explain once again the reasons for going to war. Perhaps we should even consider making all the PEACE-CyCon dip exchanges public?
Btw, Googlie, have you read the PM I sent you 24 Feb?

Maniac: I agree with asking them. State that the only reasons our forces are there is because PEACE bases are there. Can someone post a screenie of the map around there, where our and their units are, and what it's near?

Drogue, could you please send a message back? I'm not really interested in replying to those nonsense messages of the Hive. I only do so if I have to in case the EAF or now Foreign Affairs Function is absent.

HongHu just started a thread in the general forum. I get the impression it was meant to be in the Hive private forum, so I'll copy the content to here:
PEACE urgent message
PM from Makahlua:
Quote:
|
Well for whatever reason, we no longer have that CP on the ilse near you Our lone remaining base is on what we call Yardarm, back to the east (probably closer to PUT/Drone territory) It's inland from Calico, but no far enough that we won't be seeing CyCOn shortly. Any ideas?
|
I'm sorry that I now realize that Mead was right and I was wrong in not to kill that probe ship. I think it destroyed Peace's colony pod. What do you think? Also CC has had a reload. Are these two incident related?

More in the same thread from HongHu!
Quote:

I think we can take a Roze base for them. If they are prepared to occupy it. Problem is I do not think we have a chopper in range and if we use the penetrator then it cannot land? Also do they need a transport with scout to occupy it or can they use their foil to occupy it?

Either she will realise soon and edit it all out or it's a trick of some sort.
And what is this reload thing?

Reload thing
Nothing to do with the CP mind control in other words, but with AI diplomacy, which I *think* is allowed.

/me suddenly remembers the thread concerned, about a possible trade/Pact with the Angels.
Thanks.
Shouldn't we inform the Hive, or everyone, or the public forum of the use of the reload (and check beforehand it IS legal)?

Well, it's already a day later now, and the gods haven't intervened so far. So I guess that Maniac's presumption was correct. Besides, if that reload is that important for the other factions, I'm sure they're already PM'ing Googlie and Tass.

This came from HongHu, correct? If their plan really is to attack an Angel base, and let PEACE conquer it, then they will be to late. I need to check to be sure, but the Impaler Task Force will reach Calico in 2 turns, and our rover on board can take Crossbone Way in the same turn if the PUT penetrator reaches Calico and is used to soften the PEACE defenses in the same turn.
Also something I need to check, but I think it's impossible for PEACE foils to reach a Angel seabase in time to take it over, even with help from the Hive.
