Game played (late at night :eek
Quite a disaster - we must be very far behind in technology, as all the wonders for which we don't even have technologies have been built by the AI already. I have founded about 5 new cities. Our science takes 6 turns per discovery, so we have only acquired Medicine, Sanitation and something else. Currently the Alien civilization is researching University. I have managed to loose the race to build SoL in favour of the Russians.
After his pathetic rule, Roman was kicked out by his own subjects on charges of incompetence and failing nation.

Sorry for the delay in my story, the net wasn't working for me last night
The reign of SandMonkey was quiet, except for the AI building some wonders. I built 4(?) cities (heh i think i will stop using specific numbers, I can't remember any specs ). I did get to Democracy, but after testing to try and get the 1 turn revolution (i had to revert to the auto_sav's). In the process I found that nearly half of the cities would revolt, and the cities that had the boats would need some serious elvii, so in my opinion, it was just better to work straight through in Republic, which was working like a well oiled machine. Maybe a future leader can get our proud, but lagging nation, into the right spot for democracy.

NEWSFLASH . . . . .
The Aliens are no longer Pathetic - Official
In a surprise announcement today the Senate revealed that the Alien nation had been officially rated as Weak, having successfully surpassed the German people - although in 'other news' it was reported that the Germans had attained 45 Technologies to compare with our current total of 31.
The other non-fungal so-called civilizations are all also in Republic except for the unworthy Spanish whose sickly federation of 43 cities moulders in Monarchy.
Only the English have, like the Spanish, surpassed our mighty nation in terms of numbers of cities. However, due mainly to their immense overcrowding even such inadequate peoples as the Japanese with only 13 cities still have a greater population than us.
. . . . . . . more ...

Woops - I just got 7 Barbarian Horse from an Alpha 'hut' - if my brand new Omsghawk had not been in the offing they would have made mincemeat of my lovely (but pathetically defended) sleaze.
My settings are ToT Extended / Deity / 7 civs / Raging / random (large) worlds - I'm lying 3rd at 1200 and have the Gardens (only) but with high hopes of SoL -- I'm researching Demo and have caravans ready - no AI has yet started SoL ...

If huts are allowed, barbarians can also appear on the alien map.
Read my report of the GWaTS. Thats what I mean. Only tip huts after founding a city nearby (hut within cityradius, I read this somewhere in the apolyton forums, posted by Ribannah I think).

What I meant is that they are no native revolts in Alpha Centauri, even with raging hordes. You won't find barbarians, except in huts. With RH they would only disturb the AI, and my idea was to give ourselves a good challenge. I think I've reached my goal and that the AI is going to be more competitive than usual.

Well, I made in september a gigaworld map of 127x230 with a huge Antartica. This one is in the Apolyton Database. (see Thoddy's link)
The map we're playing in this sucession game is a maxiworld map of 143x229 with much more land that the other one and as many special ressources as possible. It looks like the Ai finds it easy to expand with it.
I've submitted it to Apolyton in january but they haven't put it in the DB yet. I don't know why. If they haven't done it in the short future, I'm going to make it avalaible somewhere else.
Wait 'till Apollo is build and you will see the whole earth.
If you promise not to send it to anyone, I can give it to you right now.

The reign on Zulu II began with an air of optimism. The people talked of a ruler who could chart his family back to the origional Zulu dynasty that ruled the home island at the dawn of the age of expansion.
Although Zulu II was never destined to overshadow the work of his ancestors in their great wonder building feats, the reign would, in time become known as a time of great buildings.
Over the next 34 years, the royal treasury would be used to construct a huge number of temples across the world, all preaching of the day when the wreched "Humans" would be wiped from their planet forever.
The reign was not entirely summed up by these buildings however. The scientists of the world discovered many new concepts including the idea of huge place of learning to be known as a University, Economics, Iron Working and Bridge Building.
During an expedition, the explorers wandered into a small village, only to be confronted by a small band calling themselves "Riflemen" who agreed to join the nation. The people rejoiced at having such powerful weapons in their fight against the humans and the scientists of the world began research into replicating the technology of their new recruits - Thus began research into the area of "Gunpowder" which, the Riflen said, formed the basis of their weapons
