I mean absolutely legal copies. There are no illegal copies of those two games in Russia. Russian pirates don't have balls to copy games published by Snowball.

Nuts.
Just read through 'the thread' on the Paradox forums.
I hope that the reviewer responsible for leaking it gets it in the neck and that the whole incident doesn't have too much of a negative impact ...
[Edit: I wonder - If the released version did have a unique identifier - could Paradox tailor future patches not to recognise it - a little like Stardock and Galactic Civs I guess?]

It's not that big a deal, just alot of scare mongering and witch hunting going on in the official forums because no one has anything better to do while they wait for the game. Of course, Patric cheering them on and droping ridiculous threats like "maybe we won't make any patches..." isn't helping any.
Every game is pirated, often a week before it's released in the stores, and this won't have any impact on the sales. Having it pirated week early isn't going to stop people from buying it, just as having it pirated a week later wouldn't stop anyone from downloading it. If it has any effect, it will just be from people who are 'demoing' the game before buying it, and as long as they make a quality product they have nothing to worry about in that regard.

It's common practice to change the copy protection when making a new patch to inconveniance pirates and make them get a new crack, but it really doesn't amount to much. And it can actually inconveniance the customer just as much, or more. They changed the protection on Eu2 alot, sometimes turning it off or changing it in each patch, and because of that, there was one version where my CD wouldn't work due to the new copy protection they added.
By the way, the 'unique identifier' of Galactic Civilizations (ie. CD keys) didn't last very long either, as they quickly made a key generator for it.

I'm glad the pirated version has been released, since this game won't be released in Belgium officially any way

Oh, you can be sure it will be released sometime. Paradox just have to find someone willing to publish it.
BTW, that pirate BS doesn't belong here.

If the game's not being released officially in your country, you can just order it online...pretty painless, eh?
In any case, the buzz is that it seems that the game may be rather hard to play without a manual....bad news for pirates, good news for legal buyers.

I must say that I doubt that, based on experience from earlier PAradox releases.

That's good to know. I've understood that it is Patric that have made it this time, and not someone from outside of Paradox?

Except that those earlier releases had a tutorial...Victoria doesn't.
Still, Perhaps, but then again I'm just the messenger....
That's what some people on the Paradox forums are saying, can't confirm if it's true.

It had a "tutorial" to be more precise. It's right that Vickie won't have a tutorial, but I for one don't see that as a huge loss.

Maybe they should spend more on production instead then. It took them a year longer than they should to produce the beta for CK - and Johan still had to "repair" it!
To add to the point - I actually caught people with versions of EU2 and HOI that had been pirated in Russia so dont give me that **** about Snowball being all great - they aint, They are a useless bunch of idiots with less programmng knowledge than the pirates out there. I speak from experience of boths ends of the equation. They should stick to publishing - they get that right now and again ....

It's not the frist game which was delayed.

My congrats to you. I never saw pirated copies of those games beeing sold here. There is no reason to buy pirated copy, because legal copy cost aproximately the same, plus Paradox's games are unplayable without patches.

But we are not talking about 'any' developer.
We are talking about Snowball.
And when you lok ast how much CK has been delayed but them, you can honestly claim that they are super programmers. Beta was supposed to start in fall 2002!!!

Believe me - I have more inside knowledge about that company than you possible can.
As for the copies pirated in Russia - once again I have first hand knowledge of of it. Many a a member from Russia was banned from the Paradox Forums for using them.

It is a problem isnt it?
I do not use credit cards (or any other form of credit) so ordering anything online is, for me, a no go.
I usually get a friend in a supplied country to get a copy for me though.

uglyduck's probably given you the best answer....
so yeah, if I were in that position, I'd get a friend or relative to buy it/charge it to their card, and I'd paid them personally later....

Well besides for the people I meet on the internet, in real life I hardly know people that are currently living abroad (except for a few in India, but I doubt VIC will be available there ). I guess one of my family members (parent, older brother...) with credit card could buy VIC for me after which I repay them, but since my family members seem to be rather paranoid about buying anything over the internet (just like me btw), I can probably forget about Victoria.

If nothing else you can wait for some gameshop to import it. The game is going to be in most of the neighboring major countries, so this should definately eventually occur.

The people I order from give you several payment options - postal money order, bank cheque, credit card or payment sent directly into a nominated account via internet/phone. I don't send out credit card numbers over phone lines/internet links either.
Do none of the online distributors you can access have any alternatives to credit cards that you can use?
Sometimes they just don't advertise anything other than a credit card but will still accept alternatives if you ask for them.
From the looks of Victoria it'd be a crying shame to miss it.

Never heard about that.
Recently we had a lot of fun on Snowball's forum when we read about the reason why one of the Russian posters (perhaps you know Chimera?) was banned from Paradox's forum.
