Best Game Review site?
Are any sites out there good? They all sound the same to me. It is rare to see a real negative review on any game. I believe they are all paid by the software companies to write positive things, therefore, they are a waste of time. Have you found any that are respectable?

Gamespot doesn't charge, and they aren't averse to saying a game sucks.
Best though are usually fan forums IMO.

Lots of crap games received good marks, that's how it works (Chrono Cross, Black&White)

yes the black and white review suckered me in.
I rely more on demos and similar games of that type (infinity engine) to help me decide now.

my computer gaming world magazines are still coming in. They are a pretty good mag. I doubt I will renew though. In fact they should have stopped sending them, but they keep coming in.

I do not know how good the reviews are, but I do know they do not get paid.

I don't know... I kinda like Gamespot. It turns out I don't often agree with the opinion of their reviewers, their video reviews coupled with the user reviews are usually enough for me to form a more or less informed opinion on the game. I also like, as someone mentioned above, that they don't mind saying a game sucks. They have no problem criticizing features. And from that I can figure out for myself if I would really not like that feature or not, also.
Besides, $20 a year? That's nothing if you ask me. The same amount of stupid jokes and boobies as DF gets, but at a lower cost.

Then you have to use Gamespot, for you get them there for cheaper than in print. Now, if you were a stupid jokes addict, you'd have to subscribe for IGN.

Gamespot
For a time they did charge for reviews that were over a week old, thankfully all reviews are free again. That's pretty much the only free part though

I was going to say, I'm sure Gamespot doesn't charge. I guess from some comments here they used to. And I only started looking at Gamespot.com in the recent past, because up until quite recently we had (a completely free) Gamespot.co.uk.
Still, they are worth a look, as well as some non-commercial fan review sites. But check out the fan forums.......that way you'll see how buggy a release is, and whether people are happy with it.

As long as you keep in mind that some people will complain no matter what, generally because they are too stupid to figure out how to use the game themselves nor how to read the manual or even to do the tutorial before they vent their spleen online. But the overall feel of the forums will be able to tell you if the game has potential or not.

Previews mostly don't work. I got suckered into buying Star Fleet Command, which to me was a total lemon.

Here is a site worth book marking. Just about any game you want to know about is/has been reviewed by gamers who have actually played the game.
Overall, most comments are spot on:

They may not get paid, but... MOO3 is an "excellent game"? Gameplay 5/5 stars? Ok.
