What do we think of Commandos 3?
Anyone played this game?
So far the sentiment I've seen is kind of divided into two groups: one saying it is plain sweet, and the other saying it is too hard and the control and graphics suck, and one would be better off to go back to Commandos 2. So, if anyone's played this, share the thoughts, please.
EDIT: How come the dancing banana smiley doesn't work?

arf, well haven't played it yet, so sorry for the banana vote
I tried commandos I, but I sucked hugely at the game: I couldn't even get past the first level

I didn't even know it was out.
as for the first commandos, I wasn't that bad. But I got stuck in mission 7 or 8 I believe. Even with the cheats in a FAQ I looked up, I couldn't seem to get the timing right to finish the mission. I gave up.
I may get commandos 2 if I see it. Is it in the bargain bins? I haven't seen it.

Commandos games have always been tricky, so it is to be expected. I might check this out when I get chance.

I haven't played it yet, but if it's anything like Commandos 2, which it looks like form the screen shots, it's going to be absolutely great.
The thing I love most about Commandos is how difficult it is without being too frustrating - few games manage that.
I never did get around to finishing Commandos 2 - I got stuck on one of the last missions, where you're going from house to house in an occupied village. I wonder if I have enough time to go through it again before I get the third.... probably not.

And I'd flog anyone who said the graphics sucked. I guess there's not enough polygons and primary colours for some people.

I've only seen one picture of Com3, and it didn't look good at all...
I just started playing Com2, not sure if I'll play Com3, but I guess some day I will...
I just hate the story... games based on WW2 are always boring...
WHY didn't they make a Desperados II

Well, Desperados was way cool, but I think since it wasn't as well marketed as Commandos, it didn't get that much publicity or success, and from what I've seen, the general sentiment of the fans has been for Commandos3 rather than Desperados2.

I got stuck in mission 7 (or was it 8?) in the first Commandos, but I'd be interested in eventually finishing that game and then Commandos 2 and then...
ok, ask me about Commandos 3... lemme see... in 2007, perhaps?

The original game was so frustrating.........I don't think I played it past mission 3 or so. The sequel was fairer, but introduced its own problems. On balance the games look like they are evolving, so I'll probably check out the new one when I get chance.

I think that's the same mission I got stuck at.
I think I had to bomb some doorway, and then move all my guys through something at precisely the right time. I just couldn't do it. I knew what I had to do from a cheat guide, I just couldn't do it for some reason. Maybe the cheat guide was wrong
as for the other commandos I may get them in a bargain bin if I see them. But I won't pay top dollar for a game I cannot finish.

I got through Commandos 1... Both "Behind the Enemy Lines" and "Call of Duty"... Both without any cheat guides... Because I didn't have the Internet back then. But it took a looong time especially on some missions. Never played Commandos 2, though, because by then I was so sick and tired of them. Any way, I decided to go ahead and buy this adventure game, The Black Mirror, which I posted another thread about, asking for people's opinions, and to which noone responded. So, I guess I'll be playing that for a while and put off Comm3 for now. But if anyone actually buys and plays the game, please post impressions.

I've had the game for a couple of days now, but haven't gotten the chance to play it yet.
Tommorow, I think...

Well, I've played through one mission, and so far it seems good. There are three campaigns: Stalingrad, Normandy, and Central Europe. I don't know how many missions are in each, however. From my limited experience there seems to be more variation in the missions. For instance, the first stalingrad mission had you hunting down an enemy commando-type (a really good sniper), and in the next mission the enemy paradrops into the city after an airstrike and you have to protect a couple of officials. I haven't finished the mission yet so I don't know how it plays out (ie. if you have to kill a certain number of germans, hold out for X amount of time, destroy something, or whatever...), but the enemy seems to take different actions each time you play it.
My only complaint is that the controls seem kind of awkward, it's been a long time since I played Commandos 2 so I can't remember how it compares to the controls in that game, but I don't remember it being this hard to get used to.

Seems that you have to defend against about half a dozen wavesof attacks, and then fight your way through the city to escape. It's nice geting a chance to play defense, and not having every mission being "sneak in here and blow this up" Especially when you're up against worthy opponents who're actively hunting you. Aside from that commando-esque sniper at the start, the attacks you have to defend against come in squads of soldiers who move as a unit and cover each other. (albeit, their behaviour is somehwhat scripted)

Sounds like the AI is finally getting better... The AI in Commandos 2 is pretty stupid... way more stupid than in Desperados

I bought Desperados in a sort of "woohoo-I'm-going-to-spend-money-today-like-there-is-no-tomorrow" frenzy, but never actually installed the game. Does it have some real AI? Because the AI in Commandos was totally scripted, not a real AI.

I don't know about the first Commandos, but the AI in Desperados is much better than the one in Commandos 2
e.g. in C2 the AI doesn't notice if some of their pals are missing, and they take a very long time to realize some of their pals are under attack (I just hit someone who was being watched, I saw the blue line all the time, I tied the other guy up, then I took the guy and walked out of there, as I was gone, the other guy acted as he didn't see anything... and he was pretty close by)
In Desperados if you're being seen for a few seconds, the AI walks towards where you were spotted (Not always though... but it happens)
And if you're careless (Like me ) and leaves the bodies on the ground, there's a high risk lots of enemies runs around the whole map, so you're not always sure about having a "safehouse"
On a side-note:
You can't "walk" inside buildings like in C2, but you can go into a building, though if there's enemies inside the building, you'll slowly lose energy, unless you walk into the building with the Mexican guy... he can take out 3 enemies inside buildings...
But the best of it: This has a story, unlike C2

Yes! I love Desperados. The AI in Com3 is kind of like that in Desperados, from what I can tell from the demo in that the Nazi's react much faster than they did in the previous commandos games. The evil experiments must have finally succeeded in raising their intelligence.

I'm not a fan of squad-based RTS games. If I'm playing a strategy game, I need empires and armies.

I've now played the game a little...
...and damn... what the hell were they thinking as they chose the controls?
I've died tons of times because I was pressing the controls used in Com2, finding out the controls have been completely changed... How the hell do you change the controls, to something that's not annoying... It feels kinda like when you have set it up like this in fps games:
Right ctrl - Turn left
Left crtl - Turn right
...and as a side note:
The game is extremely dark on my screen (Like it is in most games), but I can't change the brightnes... Even if I change it in Windows, nothing happens in the game... there's not much difference if the player who plays it is blind or not, when playing on my computer...

Yeah, controls is the one thing that bothers me a lot in this game. On the train mission, I had a bit of trouble when the horde of soldiers comes rushing out, because it took a while to give everyone orders, since I wasn't much used to the controls...
